Article: Trainz, 13 and the future...

Sounds great. 2 things I would be hoping for in the next version would be improved graphics and finer control over grids. The change from 10m to 5 was a good one but I would not be surprised to find other besides me who would like to see this refined further.
Oh and if any beta testers are required......... Im more than happy to help out.

My great hope for the next version of Trainz is that the overlapping alpha channel problem will be finally sorted out and allow us to use transparencies as MSTS was able to do before Trainz was released.

This is good to hear! I was wondering when some new things would come for the Mac version. Maybe we will finally have access to the T1 or the Blue Comet.

It all goes to show the old addage...you can please some of the people some of the time....etc. Been with trainz since 2001. Its not perfect, it never will be. Its not the best driver sim,it wasnt designed to be. It IS the best railway creative tool available, thats what it was designed for! Resources were channeled in that direction which is why in some respects its not as good as the others BUT its always done a great job at providing the creative outlet for those who want that aspect. I hope that will continue. I hope the volume of good freeware will continue too. Thanks to all concerned, please continue in the same manner.

Sounds like you have some major problems with your particular install. That is not typical obviously. There are forums on this site to help with individual problems, and to get on this thread and start whining and complaining about your particular situation trying to turn it into a TS12 bashing rant is rather misdirected I would think.

Let me correct you. As I said, I have been with Trainz since UTC and I've built content for Trainz for years as well. No product is perfect but there hasn't been a major Trainz release in years that didn't just add functionality, hence why I feel it's time to start a new.

I never called it crap other wise I wouldn't have bought it nor supported or built content for it. However, there are issues that keep ME and OTHERS from enjoying it at times. There was time when Trainz would tell you what content was problematic before handle so you can go to it directly to see the problem. Even when you think everything is okay it's not when using CMP. FYI this is an issue with the base install, before I install a single piece of content. Just as there are tools to help fix other issues, like shadows, ect. because of the PROBLEMS specifically with older content and content not built right or missing things like oh, shadows.

I can complain when I see some of the same content from UTC in TS12 and not only is not graphically updated, it gives an error and is built-in. You try to insinuate I'm whining and bashing when you have NOT put in the time and support I have with this community or company is a near miss slap to me. Especially, when I'm only suggesting it's time to make a break from the past to make it better going forward? Wow!

There is a reason some of the members don't come back or stop creating.

Is there a ball park figure when the SP/1 update will be released? Or is this going to be TS13 / 14 new release? Either way It looks like Trainz is going to be around awhile. That's Awsome!! -Robert-

Fantastic News Tony...Trainz Simulator will always get my support,as it has done since January of 2002

A Very Big thankyou to all at Auran and N3V for keeping up with developement of the Trainz Franchise!!!

Thank you for a very informative post.

Just one rquest though, please revert Trainz 2013, to look exactly like it did in Trainz 2010 on screen, I hate Trainz 2012, as I cannot find anything on screen, it's just more buttons to click, to get what you want.

If I want to track a train from outside in Trainz 2012, I have to click on one box, to get another box, to click on that, were as in Trainz 2010, it was all on the screen, just one click, your in the cab, another click and your outside tracking the train. The on screen view was your main trade mark, easy to use, everything was on screen and so easy to find, now with Trainz 2012, it's just like using Railworks, everything is hidden away, and so fiddly.

So if the above is possible again, reverting back to the original on screen look of Trainz 2010, then I will buy the next new version, if the New Trainz 2013 looks exactly the same as Trainz 2012, then Trainz 2010 will be the last Trainz version I will ever use.

Many thanks

I know what you mean, I missed that row of buttons at first but now I've got used to using the 1 thru 4 keys on the keyboard to switch the camera. Maybe N3V could bring the "Buttons" back as an optional display ?

Thanks for good news. With regards to content creators and huge crowd of ordinary Trainz users facing daily troubles related to assets incompatibility across all versions I still consider full CCG as most important on to-do list.

I will hope that you continue to support and update the mac version as some of our PC's are very old and don't work well.

An other great - and in my opinion very useful feature - would be a possibility to switch off layer while your are driving a session. I would imagine this could increase the performance in MP-sessions, especially the dispatcher could faster response and change the position on the map. We often notice that "freezes" appears when the dispatcher has to switch fast his position. Moreover, users which hasn't such strong machines could use this feature to increase their performance. Many people who drives with us (Members of trainz-multiplayer.de) often suffer from massive framedrops (5< FPS). It's clearly that such FPS takes a) the pleasure about the gameplay and b) lead to extremely high pings between the host- and client computers. Maybe you could implement a extra layer category, for example: "optional layer". This layer would the route- and session-layer complete. The ContentCreator could add for example the catenary in that new layer. After the route and session are finished, uploaded to the DLS and ready for play in an MP-session, the player could tick e.g. a box and the catenary will faded out. It would be imaginable to add speedtrees to the "optional layer" also, or some other things which are very "heavy" to process. ;)

Thank you!!!

My heartfelt congratulations and thanks to the N3V/Auran/Brew Crew staff!!! I've been around since Day One (well, almost). I have had an armchair obsession with model railroading for over 50 years dating back to a Lionel Christmas oval in 1956! Having had to move often, and living in small apartments, I've never been able to build that dream HO model railroad. Thanks to Trainz, I now posess several dozen life-size railroads from table-top size to prototypical hundred-mile routes! I have enjoyed many hundreds of hours of building and operating Trainz for less than the cost of a couple of brass locomotives! Thank you all, as well as the community, for many years of enjoyment, with many more years to look forward to!!!!

I'm excited to see that the Mac platform seems to be doing so well. I was afraid after it was released the Mac would become abandonware since you guys, as a small team, are splitting your resources so thin. Looking forward to updates. I for one hope that one of the updates for the Mac version is to also include the in-game content purchasing and download, possibly even download station, and get away from the awkward "Manage Content" app that's in there now.
