Arial Photos

Hi,

I have arial photos of the train route I want to create in TIFF format from our provincial gov site. They are low res so I would only be using for the route path and not the zoomed in view per say but is there a way that these images can be used in the program to map out the route? Or is the only way to use it to do a side by side comparison??

thanks

This tutorial seems to make alot of sense but I wonder if there is a difference in the file structure from v2004 to v2006? Reason being is that I can't find the folder (C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2004\World\Custom\Scenery\) where he mentions the basemaps should be located once the pack is installed. Any ideas???

thanks

Just go ahead and make up the basemap files as per the instructions and use the import content function in 2006.

ok so basically just make images of 1024 x 1024 .jpeg and then improt them? What option do I use to import them from in T2006?

In CMP, click on File and use Import Content to install your basemaps.
One hint, you can rename the 'username' line in the config file to make it easier to find the basemaps in surveyor.
Be careful not to move the basemap when trying to move a scenery item, they are quite difficult to place properly since they are so big.

Once I saved the map image to a jpeg file, if I go to the content manager and try to import content from that dir it says no content found...

Am I doing something wrong with the formating of the file or something?

You should have the file folder named with the kuid number and inside should be...

basemapsx0.jpg

replace the sample image with your own...
the image has to be named the same as the .texture text file and do not change anything in the config file except the username if you want.
the folder with the kuid name is the one you import in CMP .

ok well that brings on some questions...

Sorry!

So the folder you names as the kuid, did you just choose that yourself or is that something determined by something else? Also, what are the other files in this folder and how do you get those there? I am like totally new to this and am sure I can learn what needs to be done as long as guided at the start.

Thanks

In the beginning...

When you download the files in TRS2004 they go in with the rest of the downloads in the Download folder. I'm not sure where CMP puts them in TRS06. You open the World/Custom folder and create a new folder labeled Scenery. Then you go to where the basemaps are installed on TRS06 (write down the kuids) and move them to the World/Custom/Scenery folder.
Once you have the image you want to apply, size it to 1024x1024 and click Save As...
Navigate to the Scenery folder and open the basemap folder and double click on the image file. When it says "Do you want to replace this file?" click yes and it will save the image file under the name of the basemap. You're all set.
When I cut up the map I initially save to My Pictures as (route name)1a-1i for the first set of basemaps, then 2a-2i for the next until all the squares are processed and saved. Then I save the first set of nine (1a-1i) to the basemaps using Save As... and place the basemaps and base boards and trace them while they're level, then delete the first set of baseboards, replace the textures again, and repeat with the second set of images. It goes surprisingly quickly.
