I have lost count of the number of my creations that ended up in the digital recycle bin.
Not everyone wants to post their works on the DLS or other sites for a wide range of reasons - not considering the work to be good enough, not willing to support it with updates or fixes, avoiding criticisms, etc, etc. It is, of course, their right to share or not to share for whatever reasons are valid for them.

A German creator called ICE frequently posted screenshots of his creations about 10 years ago, but never (?) uploaded any as far as I know. They were really a notch above everyone else’s efforts at the time too, which caused some frustration with the viewers.
Yes I bet there are. I see both sides of the story in terms of it being a shame that we perhaps don't get to see the creations of many more users, but certainly from my perspective, my route is not, in my view, ready enough for a release, despite pressure from others to release it. So I guess we just have to respect the choices that the creators make.
If I have a physical layout in my basement and build a structure for it, that structure will be unique to my layout. There's nothing wrong with having the same mindset in the digital world. It does "get old" seeing some little station used over and over again, Especially if that station is known to be unique to a particular location.

There are too many rivet counters out there.....what I make is for my own use, and my routes have too many payware items in it.
If somebody doesn't want to share some or all of their work with the world, that is their right. They are not obligated to share it with us. There have been cases where content was previously available but then either the creator had a hissy fit and withdrew all of their content from the web like Zak (eastcoasttrainz) or the sites closed and some content is hosted elsewhere, like The Backshop, some content at Approach Medium and another site for some steam locomotives, and Control Point Simulations, some content also at Approach Medium. Other content is simply lost, unless you can download it through Wayback Archive. Sites like Trainz Pro Routes which required a login won't work on Wayback. I guess you are out of luck there unless someone privately sends you stuff. An NEC route by farejoint on the DLS has Baltimore building assets by dmdrake that were only on TPR, so the unknown kuid's can't be found by google or kuid index. I was fortunate to download them when they were available.
I'm sure some route creators don't share their pet route because its never finished. Most cities and towns are forever evolving and I think railways do as well. Any Trainz creator who uses Google maps or similar are sure to notice where tracks have been removed or, hopefully, added. So, maybe they will want to go and update their route for those reasons. But would you want to release a new version every time you do that. Probably not.
Other assets such as locos, cars, buildings etc, are a bit more finite. i.e. the creator knows when they are done.
I make lots of test assets and almost none of them see the DLS. I make them either for testing some idea or maybe just for fun.

For my current route, it's just for me. I don't feel I'm good enough to ever share a route I make. While I have an unhealthy amount of hours in this game, my stuff isn't good enough to go against the pros who've been doing this since the beginning of this franchise.
Sometimes it's a very personal thing for content creators not to share their works. None of us here have any right to chastise or demand they do share.
It's amazing that there are talented folks in the Trainz community who donate their time to creating and sharing.
Just enjoy what we have access to and let your imagination run wild.

We all started at that level, we all had the same doubts about the quality of our work and most of us still have those doubts. My attitude is that since the DLS is free then if the punters don't like what I upload then there are plenty of other free alternatives they can choose or, even better, they can spend the time and effort to create their own superior versions.
And who are these "pros" that you mentioned?

I'm guilty of that. Right now I'm trying to upgrade all my buildings and structures, based on the late 1800's time era to be LOD compliant, which is a bit time consuming but worth it in the long run. Once I make significant progress, I'll trying uploading them, but since my limit is T:ANE, I have no way of testing for more recent releases. Years back, I had a ton of modern assets uploaded but they were never posted, with the exception of one building, which must of slipped through before the cutoff deadline, I think because TRS 2006 was " no longer being supported". I wanted the assets to be available first before uploading a very large route from north central Colorado up to the UP yard in Cheyenne, WY. Ended up being a big waste of time and I moved on.
I had a route like that which ended up giving me a hernia.
My current large route I started in January 2004 is now giving me indigestion and heart palpitations. It started as a hernia, but it led to this as things have started splitting at the seams.
This is one of those creations, like many of mine, that I would never share. I tried that with two routes and I will never do it again.
It's a topic ... There could be several reasons.
In my case, it's simply a niche issue, my stuff might only be interesting to a very small group (if you can call it that, although "more than three is a crowd"
) since it's specific to my country... so there's no real reason to upload it.
However, I've been surprised by the number of downloads of a few things I've published on the DS. I regret not getting any feedback on them (opinions, critiques, insults, etc.).
I would add that if I find an item very satisfying -let's say it's pleasing to the eye, at least- enough to feel the urge to share it, I do.

Interesting, some of my most popular downloads are assets that I just put up but didn't think there was much interest in. Having a method of showing which are the mot popular might help, but with 2,000 assets on the DLS it would have to sort them by download count.It's a topic ... There could be several reasons.
