ANZAC Day 2010

"Lest we forget"

A day of remembrance and thanks for all our Diggers past and present(WW1 to current world theaters). Without your sacrifice the world would be a harsher place then what it is.

For The Fallen

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

Lest we Forget.
We had our ANZAC day ceremony at school yesterday & you wouldn't believe the imaturity of some students. Talk about disrespect. Only half sang the National Anthem, some were murmering throughout the ceremony. The school was a very respectful one.

Lest we Forget

Indeed,

Also remembered in The UK - normally as part of the 11 Nov Remembrance Day.

Both for WW1, WW2 and "other conflicts".

I recall reading that ANZAC was an abbreviation for Austraila New Zealand Army Corps. I believe that ANZAC Day came about to remember the casualties created by the Dardenelles Campaign or Gallipolli the Allied invasion of Turkey in World War I.

Corrections welcome not everyone has heard of the background regarding this.

Correct. We celebrate ANZAC day to remember all service men and women though. Shame that as time goes on, we no longer have any surviving WW1 diggers now days (Australian). But we shall never forget them.

Amazing how times have changed I posted an ANZAC day post 24 months ago and it was removed and I was banned for 4 weeks due to a breach of the COC as it was said to be a policital message.

At the time as a ex service personal it got right up my goat I can tell you.

I remember the fallen, and pray that out people serving do not join them.
