Any recommendations for 1890-1900s era US layouts or routes?

Pre-Grouping Railways Nut
I know this is a strange request from me as a Uk modeller, but can anyone recommend any good 1890s or 1900s US layouts. They don't have to be for TANE, TRM2017, or TS2019, - routes made in the older 32 bit versions of Trainz would be Ok as what I am looking for are routes that make a reasonable representation of those eras and I don't mind having to do a little updating if it's needed. Either freelance or semi-prototypical routes are fine by me.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that it's standard gauge routes that I'm looking for.

I can highly recommend TrainzItalia's Rollins Pass route, which may still be available. I have to agree, the Washoe Valley route on Trainz Forge is very well done and a mountain of rolling stock for it. Then there's Dangavels Timber Ridge line and Uintah Railroad. Yosemite Valley is a little later but still a good option. Angels Pass Sierra Railroad is another. I forgot to mention Durango - Silverton too. The last ones are all on DLS.

Cheers Graeme

Rollins Pass is available but you have to join the forum to see the download. There two versions, one for summer and one for winter. It was a fantastic route in TRS2004 with tons of specially made content. There is a button at either the top or bottom of the forum pages to change the language to English.

With the narrow gauge locos, search author Togog on the DLS, particularly for Durango Silverton. Some Sierra stuff on Trainz Forge.
The winter Rollins Pass is the best one to get and most recent.

I downloaded the 3ft gauge route 'Hatchet Creek' with the usual hunt the dependencies all over the internet effort afterwards. I 'borrowed' an engine and two coaches and took a look around. It's a very leafy and nice looking route, - though plainly from a later time period than what I wanted. It has made me consider 3ft gauge as a possibility though instead of sticking with standard gauge. The Carson & Colorado 2-8-0 is from the time period that I want so I guess whatever choices I ultimately make will depend on what engines and rolling stock is available. I really do have to comment that Togog's locos are stunning pieces of work.

This is all very new to me and I'm definitely out of my comfort zone, but I'd like to see how I get on with all this. Thank you very much for your comments and suggestions gentlemen as they were definitely helpful. So I guess I'll go hunting for Rollins Pass next and see what that's like.

This might seems a strange suggestion

in TRS19 the only North American route I have is UMR2021
-it can be easily adapted for older trains/ time periods
-Has many passenger stations and industries
-No catenary
-well made scenery with turfx grass and nice trees
-A lovely museum part, where you can show case your trains
-Many long stretches of track through lovely scenery
highly recommended
greetings GM

Take my word for it you will not beat Wild Bill 2 or Wild Bill 3. One is TS12 the later one for TANE.
I have been messing with this route since TRS2006 and it my view it is perfect for adding items and generally playing around with. It is 3ft gauge but there is ample rolling stock available for this. Togog has made plenty of locos and latterly some carriages. I have added an entire town to an area of this route and I am now actively updating all of my buildings solely for this purpose.
Grazlash mentioned Rollings Pass route which was released by Trainzitalia as modified by the late normhart to a narrow gauge version this is my second favourite.
Trainzitalia also released Rollin Pass winter 1910 which is a good demonstration of seasonal effects.

Regards

Ken

Route is 3ft 6ins not 3ft

Rollins Pass and Sherman Hill 3.1 appear to be AWOL at TrainzItalia at this point. Sherman Hill 2.1 is available, but it isn't turn of the century as Ann is asking. It does kind of represent part of the first Transcontinental route though. The 1880's route is a small western route, but sadly the sagebrush faded out in TS19, probably still good in the older Trainz versions. Has an animated stagecoach. Funnnyfarm created the <kuid2:411884:104461:1> 0 Great Northern Railroad Scenic Division 1893-1900 Great Northern route from Wenatchee Washington to Everett Washington. But he never finished it before releasing it to creative commons and leaving Trainz. Very nice prototype on the east side of the summit, except for unfinished peaks, water and roads. Funs switching switchbacks both sides of the summit, and lots of trestles, tunnels and snow sheds west of the summit, but a long completely unfinished portion headed west from there. I had hoped to work on it, but haven't got a round "Tuit" yet.
Anyway, sorry if this post is a waste of time, just more of an FYI.

Hello Annie,
Dangavel's update of Timber Ridge line stg gauge 2021 june 8th version 3 has both narrow gauge and standard gauge lines on it. It is a huge route and will take your breath away.

I think it is from an earlier version of TANE, as it shows incompatible for TANE SP4. However, it loaded just fine in my TRS19 version 111951. I must have ported it over. It was originally almost all narrow gauge, by author Klinger, with only a small part being standard gauge. Dangavel got permission to upgrade it, and made some stunning and fantastic scenery and terrain additions. He also added a great deal of standard gauge to go along with a large amount of narrow gauge, so you could run lots of both.

The really amazing parts to Timber Ridge stg gauge is that you travel through leafy areas which transition to semi arid and through flat-out desert regions. As you gain elevation, you end up in the snowy pass areas. It gives you quite the sensation that you have traveled long distances, and the views give you a real feel for the wide open west.

I concur with Graeme that Timber Ridge is well worth it. Dangavel's Unitah will also be, when he releases it. And, Rollins Pass in the winter is still an absolutely stunning route. Having spent time in Colorado, I can say that the route captures the look and feel of the area perfectly.

Regards,
Gary

I concur as well on the Timber Ridge. I've had lots of enjoyment driving and fiddling around with that route. Klinger did a great job on the original route depicting the region. I traveled through there in 2008 and 2012 and he's spot on with the transition from plains to high desert then to mountains on the east side of the Rockies.

So many replies while I've been asleep!

GM, - UMR2021 is not a route that I would have thought of so thanks for pointing it out.

Ken, - I shall certainly have a look at Wild Bill, - thank you for telling me about it.

Forester, I signed on with
TrainzItalia last night and from what I could find out you have to contact one of the staff there and ask for Rollins Pass. It's not freeware, it's payware, but there seem to be a number of free sessions available for it. I saw a mention of Sherman Hill while I was at the forum, but didn't check it out further.
Nothing wrong with a FYI post as while I know a good deal about railways in 1880s Cornwall I know next to nuffing about turn of the century railroads in the US.

Gary, - I've downloaded the Angels branch Sierra RR as suggested by Graeme, but I haven't checked out the Timber Ridge yet. From what you've just told me it looks like I should move it up the list and download it next. Just as well that I've recently installed a larger hard drive!

John, - thanks for your input too. It really does sound like the 'Timber Ridge' is something special that I need to see.

Annie.

The first TANE update I made of timber ridge ng was made in tane SP3 , which makes routes more usable for a variety of users and is stable, ( relatively ) I then dumped that version into 2019 and all track and most of the texturing and trees were updated to 2019 standards ,an experiment I undertook just to see what it was like to work in 2019.but it was the first version of 2019, as that is pretty much glitch free. You can adapt this to turn of the 20th century but its really set around 1950s. its mainly the cars that would need to be changed over, delete a lot of the more modern trucks and replace them with horse and buggies , now togog 's revamped his engines you have lots to chose from for the 3ft side of things and you can change the standard gauge from DRGW to any other line you chose, CB&Q also have running rights over most of the route.

I'm downloading your TS2019 Version 3 of Timber Ridge Line at the moment Dan. Thank you very much for all the work you've put into this route, - something tells me that I'm really going to enjoy it.

And once Timber Ridge is downloaded I think I'll take a pause to generally investigate what I have so far or else I'm going to end up confusing my silly little brain.

George Fisher (gfisher) did some nice routes in that time period - two on the DLS are Box Butte & Meg's Despair and St Barbara Railroad. Both are a bit old now, but should be easily updateable.
