anti-aliasing issue

Hi folks. I have an ATI radeon 4670 HD card that I'm having an issue with. In trainz it won't do much for anti-aliasing. When I had my nvidia card I had no problems. Now in other games, the ATI is fantastic. no problems. For some reason though TRS just wont agree. I have every setting maxed, latest drivers, and have tried DX and GL to no avail. what else can I do?

Have you tried turning off the Catalyst A.I., because I have had wierd experiences with it and Trainz 2006, (but I have a HD 4850 card). What anti-aliasing setting do you use? I keep mine set at 24x custom filter anti-aliasing. Also, what exactly is happning? Is it that you can't see a difference between 24x and Application-Controlled settings? If you can, move the slider more to the right, and then change the filter below it to Edge-detect or Wide-Tent. The thing that says Samples: __x (the __ being a number up to 24) shows the number of times that the card anti-aliases. The higher the number, the better the picture will look. Sorry if you knew all this already, though.

I would say try turning off Catalyst A.I. while playing in DirectX mode in Trainz.

Hope this helps.

I have that same card and Anti-aliasing works fine for me. The only problem I have encountered so far is turning off compatibility mode introduces some alpha channel transparency errors on trees. But unless you say exactly what is going on I have no idea how to help you.

when I run trainz all the rails and phone lines, ect... are all pixelated. It's just pitiful. here:

i had this happening with it appearing over sharpened, the aa works because you can see it on the edges, but the anisotropy was too much. maybe try turning that down on the card and turning it up in trainz. this was my problem, having them on in both places. of course, tuning this can get you some nice sharp shots.

I get nothing like that on same card Catalyst 8.537 for Vista 64 w/ 2009. Occasionally if I tilt the camera just right I sometimes can force a bit of aliasing on the rails, but that is about 10 or so train lengths away from the camera. And as for telegraph lines I can't no matter how hard I try make them alias. Is it just happening on that set of tracks or all of them?

Hiya's,
Did use that older driver when i first got 2009wbe

Since then i tried all drivers that ati churned out, i must say each new one gave either the same or slightly better results (mainly no more driver error responding messages)

But, there's always an exeption to the rule and the latest 9.4 driver caused me performance loss and AA glitches and some minor lockups

For me using the 4870 card i've found the 9.3 driver to be the best for stability and AA and also thus far no problems since doing a clean install from 9.4 back to 9.3

One thing, for me adding new ati drivers over the top of older ones works, but reverting back to earlier drivers it creates problems (or it can)

So when reverting back do a clean uninstall with Driver Sweeper etc

If you haven't now tried a later driver, try the 9.3 and see if it helps (i know rigs differ massively so no two act the same but it maybe worth a try)

Have Fun

Tony

I can confirm that on 9.3 everything seems good with the 4670 as I just updated. Best bet is to try downgrading your drivers and see if that fixes the problems you are having.
which driver specifically did you use? I have tried several different ones (there isn't a choice for the 4670 as far as i know) and none of them worked.
