Annoying whistle

Evenin' all.

I'm back into Trainz now (especially after I downloaded every last asset for MWG 3.0 :D ) and now I need to bring this the spotlight: the horrible and unchangeable default "whistle" on the Pere Marquette N-1 Berkshire that came in the NKP freight set on SimCentral. It sounds like a screeching cat and I hate it. Is there some sort of method to getting past the lockout and changing it? I could tolerate it at first and now it's just unbearable to listen to how inaccurate it is after seeing the real thing again, 2 hours east of here in Owosso.

Any help appreciated.

The real PM 1225 always had something sour about it's whistle, I guess it's realistically translated to the one in the pack! I think since the DLC stuff is installed as "built in" it can't be altered. Maybe try cloning the engine? That may alter the kuid to something that isn't built-in.

You can't clone the DLC either. The content will open up in Content Manager, but it won't recommit due to being protected.

You can change it. Find/Make a new hornsound and add the KUID of the 'bad' whistle to the obsolete table.

How..? I'm not seeing an obsolete table in the config file...in fact, this is what I see:

I omitted all the techno mumble-jumble in the middle....I also used the crtl-F feature to try and find it and no dice...

I found a really nice whistle from hornz.yolasite.com...hopefully it won't be too long now.

Thanks!

if there isn't one (there usually isn't) add one, it follows the same format as the kuid-table, except for being "obsolete-table" make sure you add the kuid to the kuid-table as well.

Oh and you need to edit the new whistle not the locomotive. So make a new whistle with it's own unique KUID (or download one from somewhere), then add the obsolete table to that new whistle .

Is this correct?

If it is then something isn't working because even though I reverted all changes to the N-1 config I'm still getting an error message saying I made changes and I'm not authorized to.

Well for one you made a big mistake with your jpg image. Its supposed to go in the folder with the whistle sound not from your computer.

As for changing the whistle. Its got DRM on it so there is no way to properly change it.

Using the obsolete table is the only way to edit it. I've done it to my NKP Berkshire (and the PM one, as they use the same sounds). You should not be editing anything in the DLC, only the new whistle (by Mutanay77). I'll shoot you a PM on AMTZ Bluewater with some extra help.

The whistle was faulty with the thumbnail it had so I had to change it...

Ok thanks Peter. I made sure to revert the config file back to it's original state and didn't add or subtract anything from it. Not sure why I'm getting the error.

idk K&L likes to weather things a little too much for my taste. Truthfully I'm not really wild about any of the Berks available. The DLC one has some really nice textures, but the sounds are terrible. and I already said what I don't like about the K&L one. Maybe if K&L used a similar texturing technique to the DLC one it would be a winner in my book. But when it comes down to it I pick looks over sound.
