Annoying 3D sound in Trainz 12

Well, look who's back after a few years! I've wanted to reinstall Trainz 12 for a while ever since the laptop which I installed it on went through a system crash, leaving it a non-backed up program in cyberspace as the drive was formatted. When the Blue Comet was given away for free this weekend, I found it the perfect time to finally re-install Trainz 12. Sure enough, I downloaded the Blue Comet and a glut of steam-era rolling stock from Jointed Rail and K&L Trainz. However, whenever I ran the sim, I couldn't help but notice that the 3D sound seemed to work in a strange manner. Instead of gradually panning from one ear to the other, the sound seems to either be absolutely in one ear, the other ear, or both ears. Even the 14 year-old Microsoft Train Simulator did that better! Being a big headphones user, it's rather harsh on my ears. I tried disabling 3D sound, but it just didn't seem right without the Doppler effect. Is it wishful thinking for the sound physics to be improved? Has anyone ever done it?

EDIT- If a mod or admin sees this, please move this to the TS12 support forum.
