I think you might have a virus

I'm so sorry But sometimes things just don't work that way with a virus and i was asking do you have a virus or not and one time the virus caused my son's laptop into a halt

I am skeptical of rangerjacob's posts too. Poor word and grammar usage for saying he's in the u.s.a. I think he got hacked, by someone who is not very skilled with the English language.

Obviously, I hate to say this but can we get some help from the higher powers of these forums? This person (IMHO) needs some investigation....

I reported his latest nonsense, notice how he creates a new post for everything and never replies on one of his previous threads. Mods, lets get this guy investigated ASAP please. He is clearly violating rule 12 of the Code of Conduct: "Flooding the forums and chat with redundant messages, empty messages, advertisements, clearly irrelevant "+1 Post Count" messages, and/or nonsensical messages."

You Know I'm Tried Of This S**T And You Can Say Something To Anytime You Want And Don't Tell Me If From Texas or Anywhere Else In The Southwest You're Act Like The People On Jersey Shore Because I Don't Give A S**T And Right Now If You Open Your Month One More Time I'm Going Turn Around And Hit So F*****G Hard And It Will Knock You Out So Silly NOW Don't Get Me Pissed Off

Case in point.

Opening those threads caused the attempted installation of software on my system.

Just saying.

Norm

That has not happened to me, maybe it's time to update your virus definitions. I am still trying to figure out if he's the blue ranger or the red one though...:hehe:

The fact that he has a register product of TRS. Seems to me that his account or computer might have been hacked.

But ya a mod should get on this ASAP.

Opening one of his threads caused IE8 to drop down one of those warning lines "this web site wants to install" something or other (possibily VLC). Needless to say I backed out of that thread and started this thread.

Scans do not indicate any infection on my end.

It could have been an ad of course.

There have been a spate of malicious adverts since N3V decided to allow advertising on the forums. I haven't come across many, but they do exist.

Maybe my computer caught something?

I read one of his posts when they first started coming on and since then I have been getting a very annoying ad. I have the HTML of a screen shot of it at photobucket but hesitate to post it here, just in case.

It pops up when I invoke a site, and sometimes when I move within a site, showing one of three or four different ads, but allows me to move on when I click "continue to site" on the ad.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is it related to the suspected hack? Anyone know of a fix?

Bernie

Edit: I'll post the screenshot if one of the gurus among us can assure us it is safe to do so. I just don't know one way or another. Again, it is the HTML of the screenshot, not the ad itself.

Edit: OK, then, Clam1952. Thanks for the reassurance. Here is the link to the screenshot that I have loaded on to Photobucket.

Does this look familiar to anyone? Could it be from the hack? As I said, it started after I read one of the offending posts.

Screenshot should be perfectly OK, it doesn't copy in fact can't any code that may be embedded in the advert.

I haven't seen this particular pop-up ad here, but I have on other sites.
Run a machine clean-up tool such as Advanced System Care or AVG PC Tuneup 2011. These will clean out all your temp files and even remove any associated registry keys from your system, should you have some kind of malware on your system.

If you are getting related advertisements at the top of your forum screen, this is because of Google's AdSense, which advertisements related to sites you've visited. Just the other day, for example I was investigating a virus at GFI Software's Vipre Antivirus. After that I went to the forum here, and had an advertisement for GFI on the top of the forum.

Yea i agree with you all. I mean think about it. All of his threads have to do with medical problems. He is telling us this becasuse why??? Also none of his posts make sense, use correct grammer, or sound convinceing. I think he just wants to get on our good side so when he does strike...the mods won't be ready for it. Anyone with me here???

Thank you John, and I will go and investigate the programs you have suggested.

Sounds as if I put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5. Seems to happen a lot lately. :hehe:

Don't forget you can opt out of Addsense here, http://www.google.com/privacy/ads/ need to enable cookies so it can save your opt out cookie though, just disable if needed again afterwards. I find though using Spyware Blaster and Adblock Plus stops 99% of this garbage appearing.

I see no adverts in this forum.

I think this sums up how people feel about rangerjacob.

How to handle this guy

If you don't like his posts, report them to the mods with the report button. If you are a revenge seeker, you can spam his email and pm inbox with messages.

Kind of hard to say since you run Internet Explorer, and also without a HiJackThis! or similar profile of what's running on your machine. Try out Firefox. Don't reinstall Flash, etc. If you keep seeing that, odds are it's adware/spyware. It's almost certainly spyware if you install AdBlockPlus (subscribe to the USA Easylist) and install Flash, assuming you restart the browser or reboot and still see it. Naturally, I recommend keep using FF or whatever non-IE browser suits you.

One of the greatest things about running with various ad-blockers is that, aside from the obvious benefits, anything amiss or weird is usually immediately evident and obvious.
