All assets on dls?

THis may have been asked many times before but a search has not yielded the answer, how do you check to see that a created route/session has all content on the dls?

If you are looking at routes/sessions that are displayed on the web based DLS (the so called "black pages") or on the DLS using CM, then the answer is you cannot. Only when you have downloaded a route or session and CM tells you that it has "unknown kuids" then will you know that some items are not on your system (via the installation DVDs or through previous downloads) and are not on the DLS.

This issue has been a royal pain in the a*** for as long as I can remember. Some creators will tell you in their asset description that 3rd party content is present and where to find it - but not all will follow this common sense approach. Sometimes a route creator will inadvertently include assets that he/she has downloaded from 3rd party web sites as freeware or even payware.

My policy is to only use content that is either built in or on the DLS.

However, that is easier said than done. I have on one occasion accidentally included assets that CM told me were built in (i.e. included in the installation DVD) only to later discover that "built in" can also mean DLC payware content.

My only solution has been to set up two copies of TS12 on different computers - one with the DLC assets I have purchased and the other without. I then check my new routes/sessions on both computers to detect any DLC content.

From memory, this changed in TS12 SP1 by the addition of new search filters (On Download Station etc).

Not quite. You can do a CM search of your downloaded assets for "Built In" = "True" but the resulting list will also show all items that were included in any DLC content that you have purchased. You have to look carefully at the Status icon. The little computer on the yellowish background indicates "built in" but you need to see if it also has a small yellow circular symbol in its lower right corner - this means "DLC".

This is a royal pain in the underside! It would be nice if content was color coded differently so that DLC is a different color from built-in so we don't inadvertently include it in our routes we with to upload.

Hmm... I noticed we're all TPC members! Perhaps we should bring this up with N3V. :)

Thanks for the replies, plenty to go on there, I want to publish a route and session I have created and make sure no asset searching is required. It seems a virgin install of ts2010 is required.

That would be my recommendation. My tip about looking at the Status icon to tell the difference between downloaded DLS, true "built in" and DLC assets only applies, I believe, to TS12.

Yes, have a clean install of Trainz (you can have as many installations of Trainz that you want - just make sure the relevant Content Manager is active before downloading anything directly from the Download Station).

Save your route/session/ ... as a cdp.

Drag and drop the cdp into the main pane of the clean Trainz. Download the required dependences from the Download Station. See what is missing.

When you are all done, set the filters to show what is not built-in and not DLS. Delete all this content. You now have a clean installation that you can use again.

There no way you can tell if all the dsependences are on the DLS untell you down load it or read the sticky at the top where it lisr session that have the dependences built-in or on the DLS.

I think I might have misread your question.

If you mean "How to I tell if the route/session that I have made ... " then see my post above.

If you mean "There is a route/session on the Download Station, how do I ... " then, essentially, you can't.

Unless, of course, it's one of my routes where the text under the thumbnail says "All content is either built-in or from the Download Station". You will find that all my routes are like that. And my sessions too, expcept where an external download is required in which case a direct link is always given.

Your post shows the method clearly, thanks.
