I've downloaded some eastern euro locos from various sites, most have many missing kuids which I'll try and find or substitute, however what kind of kuid is an alias ? ie <Kuid 46823:6> and what does it do ?

The alias tag is used in re-skins. It's the kuid of the original item that was re-skinned. It allows re-skinners to distribute a new skin for a model without re-distributing the mesh. It should be of the same type as the item you are trying to find dependencies for.
