hi.
can anyone help? will a computer with the following spec. enable me to run high detail layouts on trs 2006. without stutters.
10mgs quad core processor 8mb ram nvidia 9500 graphics card.
thank you

TRS2006 is designed to run on a single cpu core. So yes it will run on a quad but three cores will be idle.

You'd need to be more precise about your configuration before any one could give you a better idea.

For example I suspect you have 8 gigs of memory not 8 mb if so running under a 64 bit operating system TS2010 can use 4 gigs of memory, TRS2006 will be limited to 2 gigs of memory. TS2010 has DXT texture compression soto get the equivalent graphic card memory on TRS2006 you'll need roughly four times the memory.

From a hardware point of view TRS2006 is more demanding than TS2010. From a practical point of view it depends how complex the layouts you are thinking of running. Something like the S&C add on for TS2010 (TC3) is fairly demanding. The content that comes with TC3 which is also available for TS2009/10 as SnC is very good and worth looking at.

If you are into steam then TC3 introduced new steam engine spec support so this is also available in TS2009/10 but not in TRS2006. Practically anything in TRS2006 will work in TS2010 but you may need compatibility mode.

So short answer what you have will probably work but not give you the same frame rate as TS2009/10. To be more precise you'll need to be more specific.

Thanks

If you're not yet ready to 'move on' to the world of TS2009/2010, then I'd certainly recommend getting TC3 as a kind of 'improved' version of TRS2006. More stable, improved signalling, improved sounds and access to a wonderful range of UK locos, rolling stock and other assets. Have fun!

I'd agree but you need TRS2006 .ja filesforthe built in content.

Currently ebuyer have a nice machine that is similar to your specs

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176496

Zoostorm Gaming Desktop PC, Quad Core Q8300 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, 750GB HDD, DVDRW, NVIDIA GTS250, 500W PSU, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

That would seem to fit your price range.

TRS2006 would only use one of the four cores, TS2009/10 can make use of all four cores. TS2009/10 also have DXT compression which effectively quadruples the available memory on the graphics card. They also have a way of identifying resource hungry assets on layouts that can slow the frame rate down.

TS2010 seems to handle trees differently which was probably the problem you were having with TS2009, it also has speedtrees.

There is some discussion of TS2010 here.

Oh the other thing to note is that TS2009/10 can use up to 4 gigs of memory with a 64 bit operating system so that may help with larger more complex routes.

Computer Spec.

John, thanks for the info. Have checked on the Computer you recommended it is within budget. Think i will go for it. thanks again

Vista and 9000 series video cards are so last decade.
Get win7 64 bit. More than 6G of RAM is not needed.
Get an NVidea 2xx series card. I recomend the 260.
