Adding interior views?

Hey again.

I'm slogging through Trainz 2009's CMP, trying to fix everything and now I've come across an issue. I'm trying to add an interior view to two train cars based off existing interior views. In short...

1. MN Shoreliner Cab Interior view

2. Amtrak Superliner interior view

(Both are built-in content)

I want to add the MN Shoreliner Cab Interior view to the MARC Bi-Level cab car, but when I try to open the MARC's config.txt and add "interior" and the KUID for the Shoreliner cab interior view, then try and run the bi-level, I either get a crash to desktop or a blue void screen where there's no scenery or anything to give me an indication where the interior view camera is located.

I want to also insert the Superliner interior view into the Amfleet cars that I have.

How do I do this in TRS 2009 / CMP 2?

You can only add an interior/cabview if the loco/coach has an attachment point for an interior view.

Are you trying to change an existing interior view or add an interior view to a coach that didn't have one before?

It is only possible to add an interior view if the asset has an attachment point in the mesh for the interior. Many older items of rolling stock don't.

If there isn't one, when you select interior, you get a view of a random bit of the map (possibly the map origin, but I've never checked). I've never had a crash doing that though.

There is probably a long-winded and complicated way of adding an interior, but generally speaking it's not possible to do if it hasn't been setup already.

The Marc bi-level cab and the amfleet coaches don't have interior views, hence the reason why I want to add them.

Is there really no way to do it? The author of both train cars probably isn't active and has been gone for a couple years so no chance on getting GMAX or anything to set up attachment points.

Hi Bob --

Yes, this seems to come up time and time again, with the usual response that "you can only add an interior/cabview if the loco/coach has an attachment point for an interior view" followed by "and you need the original mesh if you want to do this for an item that doesn't have an attachment point".

Hi Veristek --

My post #7 in this thread might also help:

Although not difficult, be warned that it is not for the faint hearted.

ivantr,
Just a little friendly advice. Don't post a totally different subject to an existing thread. You'll have a lot better luck in getting an answer to your question by posting a brand new thread. If it's general, post to general. If version specific, post to that versions forum. Good luck in your search.

Bob

Why dont you look at using PEV's Attachment Maker.

There's an article in Mr Toolman series in Trainz Community Newsletter July issue.

JohnK should have it ready for download in next 24 hours.

In short, this marvellous tool allows you to add a sub-mesh without the original meshes or having to use gMax,Blender or 3DSMax.

Sounds ideal for what you want to do.
