A Somewhat Different Route

Hi all.

Lest anyone thing TPR has not been busy, we are still working on several routes.
Here are a few shots of something different. An older (never released) route that is being updated for possible release if anyone likes it.

When I get tired of working in the hot desert and the western half of the U.S, I sometimes like to go a bit farther East - to cooler weather and more foliage...
Enjoy!

Just a little something different !

I feel compelled to point out the ground textures are not up to the standards of the game, as there are high resolution textures available now that don't look as blurry. The shot with the bridge could be right out of MRL.

Hi Euphod ! Good to hear from you.

You are correct on the textures. As always (you know how I am) I'm trying to find a good balance. I like the TS09 high-res textures as well as some of the SCRUB and SoilSand textures. When I do an asset replacement with them, the game slows to a stuttering creeping speed. With all those trees and grass, it is already pushing the limits of the graphics.

The new textures do look great, but I'm not sure if a lot of TRAINZers computers are up to the high specifications required to run high-res textures smoothly. I know my computer isn't. 256MB video card and 2GB RAM still just sputters along.

Which textures are you speaking of? I'll get them if I don't have them and give them a try!

Well Jeff, I see that your rig may be a tad underpowered, so I understand your situation. I don't really run routes any more, so I don't have specific recommendations for you. I only made the comment based on other screenshots I have seen. As a partial solution, I would think about using a texture near and under the tracks, such as in this picture : http://www.jeffritter.com/TRAINZ/Screenshots/N5VAV_20120110_0002.jpg that is sharper than the blurry textures, and then use the traditional textures further away, where it would not be as noticeable under scenery items and such. Good luck with your projects, and if there is a specific scenery item you must have, let me know, and I'll see if I can make something that comes close enough.

Thanks for the offer of help, Ed. You know I'll probably be asking for something as to content for the routes! LOL

I've been wrestling with the texture and content stuff for a while on all the routes. If the TRAINZ community feels that the new standard is the new high-resolution textures, we may have to go that way to keep the routes viable.

So, I was playing on this route to see what differences I could make in textures. I replaced everything with some high-res textures to see how it would work. That and replaced the track to the new TS12 awesome JR track.

Below are screenshots of the results - is there a difference? I do see a performance hit, but I can live with that if I have to.

This is the same shot as before, with new track, textures, and telegraph lines: Is this better?

Here is another shot of some dense foliage, old track, and the new textures:

Yes, I do need to do an asset replacement for that tree! Argh.

Are the new textures better? Is the aesthetic difference worth the performance hit?
Any comments welcome.
Thank you!

I muct say it looks sharp A litte tipe you can use that you may fine usefull in adding death and detail I ues SAM track for my DP route and it somes in a tone of shades and textues but it looks very real and highly detailed. Also pofig Speed trees thay add alot of color and more death to the layout I use them on my routes and love them. just a few ideas form one builder to a nother :) The route looks lovey.
