A quesiton of injectors and water valves...

Hi all,

I have no problems in getting the BigBoy moving on the 1% grade, or manipulating the controls to make the steamers do what I want. The only real problem I have is that, unlike in the BigBoy where the watervalves and injector wheel all make sense to me, on many other steam engines, there are levers for the water valves and it is often difficult or impossible to determine what state a particular vales is in or access and manipulate the injectors.

Where can I find this information so I can concentrate on running the engine and not floundering about in the Cab?

Thanks

You may want to repost this in the Surveyor and Driver forum. This post was almost lost in the General forum. Consider this a bump.

Good Morning Major_SNAFU
One method that I've found is handy to work out which control is which, is to operate them via the keyboard when in the cab view.

For the injector, press the 'I' key a few times (shift I for the second injector). This will show which control is the actual 'injector' control. The same can apply to most other 'functional' controls as well.

On the 'real' locomotives, most injectors actually use multiple controls (most common are a water valve and a steam valve). Trainz doesn't currently model this, so most creators setup just the steam valve as the 'injector', as it's normally the largest/most prominent. On locos that have 'gresham' style injectors (entire injector on the back of the cab), the injector controls should be in the same location as most other locos with these type injectors (they're pretty standard design). The BigBoy, and SAR 520 class are two locos that should have these type injectors. Other locos (such as the QR PB15 class) use 'monitor' style injectors, which can have the controls place practically anywhere. Hence you'll need to use the keyboard to find them initially.

For the injector, regulator, cut-off/reverser, and brakes, you can also use the 'cab controls hud' (added via the rules/edit session panel) to view what they are set too.
