A plea for help!

Hi all fellow Trainz fanatics!!! I'm REALLY enjoying TS 12, HOWEVER, I have purchased and downloaded content from the store, and from what I gather from both the manual, and online posts here in the forum, adding it SHOULD be as simple as choosing "Content" from the launcher, point the content manager to the CDP files and the CM takes it from there. Here's the problem: I can't load content manager! I've tried BOTH via launcher, and directly via the file folder double clicking the CM EXE. icon. VERY odd, as I have NO problem launching the core game, and content CREATOR, just not the content manager. Has anyone heard of this problem or had it yourself? ANY help and assistance will be GREATLY appreciated!

Are you giving it plenty of time? First launch of CM can take a while. Check Task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and look on the 'Processes' tab for Launcher.exe and/or TADDamon (spelling?). If either are running, let it be...

Andy

Anytime I see "Windows 7" that's always my first suspect. :hehe: Try browsing to \Auran\TS12\bin\ and select the ContentManager.exe file. Click the RIGHT mouse button, see if there's a choice to "Run as Administrator".

Three things to check:

1.You have the latest DirectX version.
2.You have the latest graphics card drivers.
3.You are running Trainz as administrator if using Windows Vista or 7.

(To do number 3, this is the proceedure:

a)Right-click the Trainz shortcut and click Properties.
b)Click Compatibility.
c)Click the box labelled 'run this program as an administrator' to place a tick, then click OK.)

Shane

Thanks to all of you for your advice and suggestions, but I'm sorry to report that it's still not loading. I've followed ALL the steps and things you all suggested, but to no avail. Any ideas as to what my next step should be? Your continued support and time are MUCH appreciated!

Can I confirm that you checked all the items in my last post? (especially the DirectX and graphics card)

In the TS12 installation folder (Bin subfolder) there is a file called TrainzDiag. Run this program as administrator and click View Log, then copy and paste the pass/warning/fail section.

Shane

What build is TS12, should be 47059, if not then update it.
This may not help but should be done.
When you first larched TS12 did it do a test and did everything pass?

Shane,

Yes, I can confirm that I DID check, and DO have the VERY latest video drivers (in fact, the latest driver version for my graphics cards was dated as YESTERDAY, so that couldn't be more up to date) also, my direct X version is the latest and up to date, per your request, here's the text from the TS Diag program:

Thanks for the continuing help! OH! Also, my TS 12 build number is 47059

I noticed in your specifications that you have two of the same graphics card installed.

You may need to check in the NVIDIA control panel whether they are using SLI mode or similar, as this will affect Trainz.

Also, make sure you are running the latest patch as per danny5's suggestion.

Shane

Next up, let's see where the process is breaking down. Right click on the taskbar or simultaneously press CTRL, ALT and DELETE keys to bring up the task manager. When you start the Trainz launcher, should look something like this;

When you click the Content tab, Trainz.exe should disappear from the Task Manager window and Content Manager V3.5 should appear in its place;

On my system it only takes a minute or so, with a brand new install it could take 5 minutes. Question is, does some type of error message come up, or is Windows 7 completely ignoring you because it knows you're not Bill Gates?

Window Blinds

When this same thing happened to me, the culprit was Window Blinds. Are you running it, or any other "skinning" program? If so, go into that program and tell it to leave the Trainz apps (Trainz.exe, ContentManager.exe, etc.) alone.

Hi again all!!

First, let me say that you are a very kind and helpful group, and I appreciate each and every one of your suggestions and time, nice to know there's still good and helpful people in the world! Now, with the mush out of the way:

Yes, my build number IS the latest build (47059).

Yes, I have loaded Content manager and given it LOTS of time to load (when I say "LOTS" I mean I executed the program and went to sleep. The next morning, Content manager was showing up on the Task Manager, but no program. (Point: Task Manager listed it as just ContentManager, NOT Content Manager 3.5, could THAT be the issue, and if so, is there a way to download an update to Content Manager?)

LOL @ Sniper!!! TOO FUNNY!!! I tried THAT too, logged in as Bill Gates and still Snake Eyes. Just to be sure, when I did THAT, I checked my Bank Balance, and there was NOWHERE NEAR a Billion in my account, but you can't blame a guy for trying, right? :D

I have tried to load with SLI both ENabled, AND DISabled. BOTH to no avail.

So, as you can see, I've done everything outside trying to load it standing on my head, but something tells me I'd only end up with a broken limb when I loose my balance.

I wonder, is an outright uninstall and REinstall an option? Feedback on this will be GREATLY appreciated as usual. Again, you're ALL GREAT people, and I really do appreciate all your help!

P.S. I forgot to mention, I also looked into Window Blinds, and it's not activated.
