A newbs point of view

:)Welcome to Trainz! I see that you once had a Lionel collection and wanted to let you that you can actually run models of Lionel layouts. At the Download Station there are lots of Lionel related items including 3 rail track, illuminated bumpers, and other goodies. You can search under Lionel, O gauge, and check under the user name "Mcguirel" he has completed layouts and running gear.

Yep, Trainz is a blast and I have been using it for years. Also take a gander at www.virtualrailroader.com

It is a free online magazine that cover virtual railroading and has numerous articles about using Trainz, plus free routes.

Welcome aboard!

John

Thanks, just pasted it into Notepad. I sometimes find it hard to explain just what is the attraction of Trainz.

If you really think about it, it is a never ending scenario. There is always something to do. This is one game where you don't loose.
If you are a creator of content, you'll never finish all the models out there.
If you are a route builder, your route may never end. If it does, just start another one.
If you just want to play, there is a ton of routes out there that will and can keep you busy for the rest of your life.
There's no war, there's no fighting, there's no killing, there's no shooting. Just hours and hours of clean fun.
A mouse used to last me for years but now I have to buy 3 mice a year. I keep waring out the left mouse button.:D

Oh, and welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard MarvinJ.
Such eloquence and heartfelt emotion for the joy of the 'game' has rarely been expressed so well in these threads. And your to blame MarvinJ. Soon as you posted a "WOW!!!!" in your intro, a host of dedicated Trainzers could almost read your thoughts, because you expressed theirs.
No matter what version of Trainz you choose, you can find help right here. No matter what aspect of the sim you get into; be it route building, DEM, signalling, content creation, or scripting, there is someone out there who can, and most likely will, offer their experience. I've found the Trainz Forums to be one of the best; well managed and helpfull.
But, to be honest, Trainz can lead to an impulsive spate of spending, particularly when you start chasing that 2 gigs of highspeed DDR, dual core processor, latest Sound Blaster Pro, NVidia or Radeon 9xxx video card, and of course, a 24" monitor (Gotta have that!). (I've been saving my quarters for that monitor! Almost there.)
Enjoy the ride MarvinJ. Don't fret the occasional steep grade or tight turn, You got plenty of company on this Trainz! Have fun!

Regards :)
