A Little Hep with Whistles and Enginesounds

I was wondering if there was a website that explains the difference between the different types of whistles and what railroad prefers what whistles. I've got a few of cincysouthernrwy's reskins of Subpar Productions' steam locomotives and I was thinking of given each railroad their own whistles. I also would like some info about what enginesounds would be appropriate for different steam locomotives. By this, I mean what enginesound would be appropriate for a 2-8-2 that was designed for a major railroad (i.e. Class I) compared to the appropriate enginesound for a smaller railroad (i.e. Class II)? Can someone help me out?

Here's an example of the whistles:
Cincysouthernrwy's Tennessee Central locomotives are equipped with the 'Crosby 6 inch 3 Chime' made by gb1290.
Cinctsouthernrwy's Interstate Railroad locomotives are equipped with the 'Southern 3 Chime' that's also made by gb1290.
Cincysouthernrwy's Southern locomotives are equipped with 'Southern #4501 2-8-2 'Banshee Screamer' 2' made by timothetoolman.

I think that would be a railroad's choice, or maybe what the engine designer wanted. For example they might want a loud, thundering whistle on a bigger loco. This would also help to warn people better, and it makes the loco seem more powerful.

Can you, or anyone, give me a link to a website that can tell me what railroads prefer what whistle? For example, what railroad(s) prefer a six-chime whistle and one(s) that prefer a three-chime whistle?

Does anyone know what whistles the Nashville, Chattanooga And St. Louis (NC&StL) use, specifically 4-8-4 #576?
