A humble request for the staff to rethink how they handled the situation

Most of us have received personal threats from members of these forums (via means outside these forums), either to our jobs or even physical harm. Things like people trying to find our addresses, and other personal details, are examples of this. It's definitely not fun and games when this starts happening...

This is all just suppose to be for fun! Don

It's not so much a question of TANE doesn't work, it just doesn't work very well. I'm not expecting it to work on my laptop, even after any performance patch which eventually emerges, but it doesn't exactly fly on my desktop either.

As an example, yesterday evening I had a cracking session in GTA V, 1920 x 1080 even got the settings cranked up a bit beyond those recommended by R*. Did the mission where you chase after a crashing plane on a trail bike. Realistic looking landscape, passing through towns and countryside, speeds in excess of 80 MPH so there must be a fair bit of loading and unloading going on in the background. Particle effects from the smoke trail on the plane etc. Complex calculations going on in the background to trigger dialogue etc. Not a single stutter. To chill out before going to bed, thought I would try a quick drive on Heallsville. Load up the route, judder my way across to the loco. FPS all over the place and virtually uncontrollable with juddering and jerking constantly. A shame as it actually looks like a nice route but never going to see it at this rate.

And before anyone points out that GTA V had a much bigger budget, as I noted in one of the arbitrarily deleted threads, a small budget hasn't prevented Euro Truck Sim, OMSI or World of Subways from achieving excellent results. All we want is a bit of assurance from N3V (not from community spokesmen, self-appointed or otherwise) that yes they recognise all is not what it should be and a timescale for this being addressed - even if that is six months away. At least some of the angst has come from seeing N3V tout for payware contributors and now input for a future version, so yes people are going to think, "Hang on, they haven't got this version sorted yet" and get a bit cross.
Thank you for making what I was saying previous more clear and concise! Could not have made more sense than this! :)

Yeah, the old budget argument is very old hat by now, no gaming developer that keeps on producing brokin games with very little new content can expect to ever have a huge budget. None of the biggest titles started out with the humongous budgets that they are operating with, their budgets kept on growing because their games kept on growing.

I suppose the disaster that is TANE will leave N3V with an even smaller budget going into the future, ah man, things could've been so much different had TANE been a huge success.

It would be really interesting to see some statistics for games like GTA V, where (as far as I'm aware) all of the content has been professionally made, compared with those for T:ANE, where much of the content has been made by amateur creators. I'm thinking here about whole scene stats for triangles, numbers/size of textures etc. I guess GTA doesn't have to contend with 100K poly, 50+ material Sketchup models, with no LOD, loading into view at 5km+ from the action.

In my opinion, the criticism that T:ANE is getting for being 'un-optimised' is mainly down to the use of a massive amount of inefficient content. There is a lot of work going on to improve things, but a huge legacy of stuff that is built to older 'standards', and user resistance to anything that breaks it, means that it will take a while for this to filter through.

I hope you have given these low-lifes a permanent ban for this disgusting behaviour.

I recall similar dire warnings after Trainz 2004 was released. As other posters have noted, it took 4 major patches to TRS2004 before it "worked" to most people's satisfaction.

And do we really want to bring GTAV into the "my game doesn't work at launch" ring? Perhaps we can add Diablo III and most Bethesda/Obsidian games into the ring as well. :P

GTAV had some serious issues on launch, mainly with its multiplayer, same with DIII. And Bethesda routinely releases a game that is so buggy that it can be horrible to play during the first few months.

Getting back on topic, here are a few points to raise here:
- please re read the article explaining why the forum was taken down (originally I said two days but the actual time was about 20 hours )
- the reason all users were affected is that I wanted everyone to rethink why they are posting here and what effect their posts were having on other forum users. This is a game/hobby forum and far too many posts were taking things far too serious and were far too insulting
- Several long time Trainz fans had written to me saying they no longer wished to be part of the ongoing vindictive comments that were plaguing these forums more and more
- even more people had posted in the forums how they saw things heading south
- nowhere did the changes mention that constructive criticism should or would be banned
- the main aim was to strengthen the coc to give forum members a better understanding of what was and wasn"t allowed and give moderators better guidelines for what is tolerated
- those moderators are primarily volunteers who work for the most part independently of N3V (although we have the right to overturn rulings)
- sometimes they may name the wrong decision - they are only human
- apart from a few people, it appears that most people would actually like to see a happier environment here
- abusing staff is not a good way to resolve any issues you have with a product
- I could keep going on but let's just end on the point that the team are totally focused on improving Trainz and dealing with tantrums and abusive behaviour do not assist in making that happen

Thankyou for your comments Tony - it's good to see you on here to help clarify things. The only thing that I have noticed though is that some of the Code of Conduct rules are still a bit confusing but I can discuss that with you separately if you want me to.

At the moment, my main aim is to try and help keep things calm (with help from other forum members and of course N3V and the moderators) if I can without falling foul of the changes to the code of conduct. I can't tell yet if I'm getting anywhere with that, and I know that some I've got little or no chance with, but that's just the way it goes from what I've seen.

^^Why don't you just leave one threat, let's say this one, in place and let it be, then all the lunatics, ranters, ravers, crazies and........well people like me, have a place where we feel comfy, a place where the more righteous, and those that feels easily insulted, need not to come, seriously!

That other threat would've worked itself out eventually, sometimes one just needs to let things be, balance will be restored, it's the natural way of things.

^^^Hahahaha, yes, and steam and and and, keep it inhouse is what I say, if you don't let people vent here they will do it elsewhere with possibly even more disastrous results.

Somehow I don't think subtly threatening a company's CEO with supposed consequences that nobody has any real evidence for or against except Said CEO and possibly perspective employees is a very good way to go about retaining Posting privileges..... Particularly after everything else thats gone on.

Apologies if I'm misreading that.... But I think thats how alot of people will read it....

Just my two cents....

I'm wondering if the word should be 'thread' rather than 'threat'?

Well, if thats the case, then I did misread it, though I think its easy to do..... Hadn't occured to me. Though I suppose D and T aren't far from each other on the keyboard? Now you got me scratchin my head Amiga..... lol. Text can be so imprecise, sigh.

I see a suggestion with the word threat in there, but no actual threat. However, I do like the sound of "Trainz Asylum"... almost like a future DLC project.
