A 2009 first . . . for me . . .

Hello,

Today, I got into the 2009 surveyor and set it up. Looking into one part, a little box, if checked, would enable the compatible mode. Meaning, I guess, that no check, means, native mode. Okay . . .

Then, using Blender, I created a cube, applied a speckled orange texture and exported that cube into 2009. I got there, just fine. I set it out on the otherwise empty grid-top and admired my work.

Then, I went back into Paint Shop Pro, got the same texture, did an emboss and stored that as a seperate image.

I went back into Blender, created another cube and applied the same texture as before but this time, I added the emboss map then exported all that into 2009. Set both cubes out on the grid-work so that they were side-by-side and the difference is amazing.

good-bye gmax!

That kind of stuff is easy. The real challenge is trees and bushes. The one tree they have that "represents" the new paradigm, is actually a collection of flat panels, arranged at various angles to make the tree appear three dimensional. Having made dozens of trees, I'm not impressed and am currently trying to find a different way of creating trees and bushes that look reasonably convincing.

So, there it is . . .

Cheers,

srude
