A bit more information would be useful. Like ...

What is the locomotive you are trying to renumber - its KUID number would be very helpful.
How did you attempt to change the number?
What is "9f"???

When changing the running number, You put a train WITH a running number and click on the question mark button below the slot where you see all your locomotives and rollingstock appear. Then click on the currnent engine after you have clicked the button. There will be a slot that has a number or no number. Click on that and then give it a new number.

Did what Enzo1 said thanks but no joy can change number in pop up
but no show on cab
I have modified in C C P to build 2.9 & changed interior to 9f cab shell
also now shows obsolete

The version of the 9F is out of date. 101838:1033:5 is the version currently in use.

What I am almost certain will be missing in the config.txt of the version you are using will be these two lines, which make the running numbers show:

fonts 1
fonts-path "9f_doublechimney_rev2"

It looks like you need to let TS12 update itself.
