600+ content updates.

When I go into trains 2010 I have a menu option that shows I have over 600 content updates. When I go into this screen I can see how to update them one at a time but not how to update the whole shebang.

I tried to solve this problem with the content section of the launcher. It has various windows for viewing content but I can't find a view that shows the same list of content to be updated.

So I searched here for content updates and found a post from three years ago that is not relevant.

It seems very strange that I would have to update them 1 at a time and I can't see myself being the first person to have this problem. Perhaps I am not searching for the right terms? Maybe the answer is brutal obvious and I will wonder how I missed it when I find out? I don't know.

Is there a way to update all or a chunk of this content other then 1 at a time?

But of course there is

Yes there is:

Open CM and set the filter for "Location = Local" and "Out of Date = True".

This will show the assets with available updates.

Select all objects in this list at once.

Right click, select "View Asset Versions", then view all of these assets in the main list.

Select all of these and then drag and drop them into the download helper.

Only the most recent versions will be downloaded.

But be aware that you only really need to update the content that you actually use. If you are like me you will never ever use about 90% of the assets that are installed in Trainz.

Well it probably won't help when there are 600+ knocking at your door but I normally manage to run 3-4 updates simultaneously (but each one requires a separate double click to get it going and then a click on its Download button). You will also need to move each update progress window down and to one side to clear the space for the next and it can get a bit tricky at times.

But I found that by starting the program very single day, the number of waiting updates can be kept to a more manageable number.

EDIT: Phil just beat me with his suggestion - I will try that next time as well.

Edit 2: I just tried it and it worked - but after today's 44 updates (performed using my method) there was only one new update. So I will try this in future.

Thank you for this information! It saved me a LOT of painful double clicking. :)

I'm downloading roughly 500 items now. Thank goodness for that FCT!

I'm being elderly and slow again!!

Where do you go in CM to find the "filter" so that you can do the changes suggested??

You will find the "filter" on th LHS of content manager. It is called "Search"
In its window you can add a number of different search filters as mentioned above.
