5m Dighole/Holepunch asset?

Davie_UCF

Here since 2001, Trainz!!
For many great tunnels you have to use a dighole asset to punch a hole in the baseboard. Most of these take one 10m baseboard square.

Is it possible to make one that only takes a quarter of that grid square if you are using the 5m square baseboards?

Thanks
David

I would think that a 1x1 dighole is the smallest size of one 10m Trainz grid ... and that the 5m cutting line is just an additional grid bending line ... perhaps I am wrong.

This is how I lay tunnels, by centring the tracks, than positioning the tunnel around the dighole, then fidling with the back of the dighole heights.

Who else uses Tunnel3_1 voie ... I just love it ... and can help you fix all the config file errors

Hi Davie_UCF
At the moment, only 10m*10m or bigger digholes are supported. We may implemented a 5m*5m dig hole in future, however we do not currently have any plans for this functionality.

Hi Zec:

I'm surprised no 5 X 5 m dighole is not available as TS2012 supports a 5 X 5 meter grid. A smaller dighole would make tunnel entrances a lot easier to make as I often have to make them much bigger then the need to be to hide the 10 X 10 m dighole. Do hope ya'll change your minds and institute one in the near future.

I to support the idea that Trainz soon get a 5m dig hole.

and a way to export into dxf smaller area of the ground, please?

Another supporter of a 5m dighole here, being as I model Narrow gauge it would make life a heck of a lot easier, currently I've had to build half the side of a mountain as an asset incorporating the tunnel portals to cover the enormous hole created in a near vertical face, in fact I've done that for all my tunnels as there is nothing small enough for 2ft gauge Welsh Tunnels carved out of solid rock with very limited clearance, large holes to fill in do not help! Could really do with a 2.5m grid as well but doubt we will ever get that.

Count me in as a supporter of the 5m dighole idea, ideally we should have a rework of the entire tunnel functionality.

Put ne down for a yes please as well.
My only reason for getting 2010 was for the advertised 5m grid. I was p'd off to find it only partly implemented without the matching dig hole (and no better for narrow embankments).

Chris.

Ah well, cheers for clearing it up though!

I wasn't wanting it for tunnels but for making holes at odd angles for the inspection pit splines as using the standard digholes would equal double the amount due to it being at an angle, therefore leaving massive holes around the pit that I can't really fill in with grass splines as its a yard... Did consider making a spline with the ballast texture on but would be hard to pull off I think.

And that is exactly the problem I have just had today, an inspection pit / ashpit, narrow Gauge at that with other tracks in very close proximity and at an angle to the grid which required a large plane to cover the enormous hole that the dig hole created which then had to go under the other tracks, great fun. OK so with a bit of fiddling with textures to get a near perfect match to one of my own ground textures, you can hardly the join but it would have been so much easier and far quicker with a smaller hole to start with.

I agree with everything said..I don't really understand why N3V didn't fix this when they came out with the 5m baseboard..I got a feeling it was done by a non railroader..

Hi,

I think someone at the Trainz program creator end said once the 5m was introduced and I was bugging them why no 5m dig hole, that making it would confuse users as the old dig holes would no longer work...
Something along those lines, and it is possible the reason as it is somewhat complicated I guess, as a dig hole today uses the number 1 to say make a 10x10 meter hole, as in;

dighole 1,1 [which equals 10 by 10 meter hole, the smallest as we all know :()

So, in order to make a smaller hole that sentence/tag would either change meaning making all assets using it into not working, or one would need to make a new tag for the 5m hole (which is kinda a good idea N3V... :D).
Or they would need to change the tag to introduce the numbers like 0.5, 1.5 to make a 5 meter by 15 meter hole...

I think there in lays the reason for not having it.

But, it is sad, years gone by and still no smaller hole... :'(

Then again, I also got Chris to agree that a program to read out ground and tracks/splines and possible objects into a dxf file for smaller areas would also be good to have in Trainz, but being as long ago as the 5m grid I think I guess I can sort of just dream about it and hope one day it comes to Trainz and help me back into the game...

Not much money in such stuff I guess, there is more in the new ways Trainz has come to the world, and that is good for them, I just wish...

Take care all - it was good to see that a 5m dig hole is not only my dream.
