hi mates

i tried searching the forum, but could not find anything that answered this in detail.
i remember reading in one of the threads that it should be possible to downgrade trainz 2010 routes to Tc.
not sure if it was 1,2, or 3

does anybody know what is possible?

thanks
Ron

so what you're telling me is
that i cannot add on the other 2 parts of this line when i built them?

if 2010 or 2012 don't allow merge maps, then i might as well stop right where i am

thanks for the replies though
its appreciated
cheers

Whether merge works or not depends on how big the route is, I've merged three small routes with no problem in 2010 and the same in TS12, it's when they get larger the problems happen. Some have actually managed to merge large routes, others myself included haven't. It has been suggested that you need to remove any consists from the routes before merging as that could be a cause of failure, haven't tried it myself as I haven't got anything to merge. Also probably an idea to delete all layers other than route before merging.

You may I think be able to backport to 2009 SP4 which is compatible with 2010 by changing the build number and merge there, won't work on SP3 or lower.
I'm also fairly sure that the merging worked in 2010 before the patches started appearing.

I think the only safe solution, assuming you are using DEM's is to make one for the whole route to start with.

Fingers crossed that SP1 if it ever appears fixes this problem.

This is a bit of a confusing thread.

What I know is, I have absolutely no problem what so ever merging routes in 2010, just the other day I did a merge of a massive route and ended up with a 560mb .gnd file (all TransDEM) the session came across well no problems that was a huge file also, so I don't know what the problem is. I've also merged other very large routes in 2010 no problems(500+mb), but these have been basically bare DEM routes.

But you can't take them backwards to 2009 or 2006, as the .gnd format is different.

Hope it helps

Hi Lots

it's a know issue - some folks can merge no problems in TS10, others can't merge at all and some can merge small routes but not 'big' routes. I'm one of the unfortunates, I keep TRS04 installed just so I can merge routes - that's all I use the grand old lady for any more, merging!

And before anyone asks, no I don't backdate! I create DEM routes in HOG, merge them in TRS04 then import the fully merged route into TS10...

oh man, dermmy
i don't fell like redoing the whole thing.
thanks for the info though
next time i'll have to work out which way to go before i start
cheers
