hi

i have encountered a strange problem

my wife bought me a new pc and after installing trainz and patching it,
i brought in the local folder

in the old pc i had no problems with renamed built in items,
but
once in the new pc, even after a edr,
nothing showed as faulty or missing, but i had some ground textures not show up on the route.

i restored them and then they showed up

i know that i can rename them in cmp on the top left in the item,
but will i be able to save this like that,
or will i have to do it after every re install?

thanks
ron

I re name assets for easy finding, as long as the kuid number stays the same any asset that needs it will be ok.

To the best of my knowledge if you rename an item using CMP then that name only sticks until you do a database repair after which it resets to the name in the config.txt.

Your problem may be due to editing the name of built in textures. Any edit of a built in item may cause problems, best to leave them be, or clone them if you want to edit them.

hi
the problem is that i cant clone them, otherwise
when i upload the finished route, people wont be able to find the cloned textures

i need to rename them to make them handy to find

i am still sorting through a lot to try and work out whats the best for the area to make it look prototypical

thanks

OK I think can see what you are getting at. Maybe you should consider another way of making the "good" textures handy to find - like using the star rating system perhaps? Avoiding 0 and 5 stars, which Trainz allocates, you still have three categories to go at.

Another method might be keywords but they can be wiped on DB repair unless you are very careful about backing up and restoring them.

hi mate

how does that work?
how do i find them once I'm in surveyor?

i have only heard about the favorites star

thanks

Hi Ron,

Use the filter to filter on favorite'd items or keywords. It saves a ton also because you cans save the filters with any name you want. I for example have saved filters for Ben Dorsey, Dave Drake, etc. With the filter, you can also drag in your most often-used items into the list, so they are there all the time.

  • In Surveyor open the filter dialog by clicking on the funnel icon on the (top) menu bar.
  • When the dialog opens click on the (+) button.
  • Two boxes will appear, one says "name" and the other is blank.
  • Click on the "name" box and a couple of lines below "name" you will find "rating" - pick that.
  • Now the blank box will say "Not yet rated", move to that box, click in it and you get a list of the rating options.
  • Pick the one you want and this is now applied to all the selection lists.
You can combine items to make complex filters and save them if you wish.

Wrong place, you give items a Star rating by right clicking in Content Manager, rating, then select the number of stars.

And a handy tip is to use the "pick list" to work between CM and Surveyor. You "drag drop" items from the selection list in Surveyor into the pick list and then when you go into Content Manager they will be in the pick list and you can transfer them (right click) into the main list for rating.
