2006 SP1?!

Is there any particular reason the Trainz 2006 SP1 update takes forever to install? I started the 670 mb upgrade at 4:23 today. It's now 7:15 and it's only at 34%. I've had 10 minute installs with things 15 times that size. Why is this happening?

Double post, yea I know.

I'm just wondering, does the slow install speed have something to do with the fact that I'm running the patch .exe straight out of the .rar file rather than unpacking it first?

Edit: 10:12. 91%

Almost there! Yay! It had better be worth it.

Complete! :clap:At 10:35!

I am so unbelievably ticked off. I took 6 hours and 12 minutes to apply a 670 mb patch. :n: Thank you not so very much, Auran. I want my day back. I probably could have done it faster with a brick and a piece of string. I remember reinstalling about 35 gb of addon data for FS2004 in about half that time.

Yes, it probably is due to you running straight from the .RAR file.

Always blame Auran - they are probably guilty of causing the world economic crisis - they get the blame for everything else !!
Did it not occur to you that the fault could be with the way you handled the download.
Most Trainzers do not have this sort of problem because they follow the basic download and install protocol. It would be pretty obvious that to take this amount of time something must be wrong with the procedure.
Poor old Auran the scapegoat for everyones problems.

Your telling me you sat at you computer the whole time it was installing ! Sheesh go out and see your friends or something

Yea, was watching Top Gear.

Ok, I'll list the steps I took in installing the update, tell me where I went wrong.

1. Downloaded .rar file with update.
2. Closed all running programs.
3. Opened the .rar file.
4. Ran the update .exe
5. Wait.

What did I screw up?

On the face of it nothing wrong - but having said that it would also depend on your PC specs. and broadband. Did it take a long time to download or was the install the problem ?
I was not critical of the method so much as the apparent "Aurans to blame" syndrome when it would appear to be other factors causing your dilemma.
I reinstalled TRS2006 with all updates after changing to Vista a few weeks ago and do not recall any unreasonable times for any of the installation.

Pretty sure it's not my computer:

OS: - - - - Windows XP Home SP3 and Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 dual boot
Mobo: - - - nVidia nForce 780i SLI Motherboard
Processor: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
RAM: - - - 4x2Gb PNY DDR2 667MHz
Video: - - 2x PNY XLR8 9800GX2s Quad-SLI
Storage: - 3xWD Caviar 500GB 7200 RPM HDD
Drives: - - 2xEmprex 20x DVD writers
PSU: - - - Toughpower 1200w

Download... I don't remember. About 25 minutes to download it. My router caps my internet at about 500kbps, but If I remember correctly, the update downloaded at about 245kbps.

I don't know it took me about 15mins to install the patch.

Just thought. Did you install it on a clean installation of 06?

I backed up my downloaded content, uninstalled Trainz 2006, restarted the computer, re-installed Trainz, replaced my installed content, then applied the patch.

I may be wrong but I think the Patch should be installed before even opening TRS2006 and most certainly before reinstalling any content. Could be it may give running errors because of the install sequence. Hope this helps as your PC specs seem very good.
