2004

All versions will run, on all Windows OS ... TRS2004 & TRS2006 are now unsupported (meaning uploads are no longer taken by N3V).

The DLS requires that 04, 06 users either buy a FCT in order to download, at all, at a high speed of 375 Kbs ... OR, buy TS10 or TS12 and download at 3.75 Kbs without a FCT.

Also with the unsupport: Alot of assets, and all their dependencies, have been automticly updated to a higher trainzbuild line in the config files, requiring you to fix all the offending assets, and all their dependncies that will not show up in 04, 06 without first changing the trainzbuild lines.

Also if you buy TS12, alot of 04, 06 assets will not function in TS12 without fixing the assets. TS10 also has this problem, somewhat, (I believe).

I still use TRS2006, and bought TRS2004 ... and alot of people are still very happy with 04, 06

TS09, TS10 and TS12 will not run very well on low end laptops and desktops, as the framerates ar extremely choppy, or lock up completely !

TRS2004, and TRS2006 will run pretty good framerates on inexpensive PC's that have Integrated Graphics, and will run pretty good framerates on PC's that do not have a fast CPU speed of 2.7 Ghz, nor have a video card that has 1-2 Gb graphics memory.

99% of all laptops are not intended for gaming at all ... unless you go into the $1500 + price range.

Hi Rick,

Sure it do, I've spent way to many hours in there this last week so no problems on my Win7 64 bit computer. :)

I can't remember if I installed it or just copied the files over though. :) I think I just copied the files over and ran TRS2004 and got lost in there... :p

And, I am actually on my way back to a little texture fixing in gmax and then into SJC Linda style after that.. Soon, just soon my friend!!

Except, at 90 minutes I am busy on eBay so rest easy... :hehe:

Linda

Thanks ladies and gentleman,

I've been VERY reluctant to give up on my '04 even with the fairly recent decision to stop supporting it. For me, that's not the end of the road, I have most of the 3rd party content I want and I almost always keep a FCT, although I do see it has recently expired : (
But even though I'm still clinging to '04, a dear freind, and you know who you are ; ), has used a cattle prod on me to upgrade to '10 or '12. Being my PCI-e slot died on my 4 year old PC, it's time for a new PC and I want to make sure I don't back myself into a corner and not be able to run my '04

Hey Linda, I'm waiting anixously to see your verison of the SJC. I can see already it's going to be interesting. Good luck on those glass plates.

I still make my items for 2004 and upload them to the TPR site then run them thru 2010's CCP which converts them to 2009 format and those go on the DLS.

Well, not having used 04 or 12 (only 06,09,S&C & 10) my personal preference, for what it's worth, is TS2010 - I see too many reports of features which were working in 10 that are broken in 12 and, given that these are features that I use, I am reluctant to move on until they are fixed.

Edit: Just after I posted this I noticed that you have a registered version of 09 which, fully patched is TS2010 minus a few features, you might want to live with 'upgrading' to that for a while and keep an eye on the forums for opinions and news before spending your $$$$$.

Thanks for the info and advice guys. I got '09 a long time ago as a download. I didn't like it and never used it. It was lost with my old hard drive and I didn't care enough to record the SN or anything. It's good to know though. I can probably pick up a copy of '09 much cheaper then '10 or '12. Are all the patches and support still available for '09?

Hi Rick

As TS2009 is on your station stop it's SN is in your profile, and when it comes to source files as a download that should probably not be to much a problem I would assume as long as you have a SN which you do have.

TS2009 was a stop gap, I upgraded mine to TS2010 so I lost my install, I kinda liked the TS2009 though, it show me a way forward I sort of liked and hated some stuff.

TS2010 I think is my favorite, but I have been working in TS12 too and as I've not been doing Trainz for a long time I just have forgotten which one I prefer... Have a feel it is TS2010 though...

I tend to save all I am working on, working with, so I tend to have way to many files around, very seldom I looses stuff, your recent luring me into TRS2004 again made me realize how nice times was back when that was the main program and I had a Bob Pearson program to get the grid out into a dxf file and could customize models to fit the ground easily and such.

That program is the only one I have lost for years... :'( Learned that last week, was a very sad thing to learn, but as it is sadly not working in modern day Trainz I had sort of not used it either - I wish the Trainz programmers could write a utility program to get a dxf file and texture file out of the ground if painted for an area like like up to 50 or 100 meter squares to keep it manageable.
Other then me loosing that program I seem to have stuff all the way back to my early computer days. :P

Including lots of Trainz stuff, blunders of mine, old models never going anywhere, new models I could share but DLS don't take TRS2004 stuff anymore and I prefer that location...

I plan to possible get back to you today with the "messed up" SJC, need to move away from Trainz and back to Cripple Creek District images again, seeing I got my glass plates yesterday - lovely!
One day, we see some of it Trainz, like Trainz 2050 or so... LOL

Take care Rick and I think 2010 is better to play with then 12 but depending on play style I think we both can enjoy lot of play in 12...

As Linda said you should be able to get another copy at no cost and it's simple to do so. 09 and 10 are not that different, so if I were you I would download 09 again, patch it to the latest version and see how you get on with it before spending your $ on 10 or later.

That's good news. I thought I would need more to dowload it again. I think I'll wait until I get my new PC before downloading it though. One moe question for someone. Has it been made any easier to have two versions installed on the same PC? I know there was a way, but it wasn't straight foreward. I guess I'm wondering if anyone has written a small program to switch between the two? Thanks again for all the insight...and Linda, I don't think for a minute you messed it up. It has to be better then the NW&NR (No Where & No Reason...LOL)... Hey, remember folks, if anyone uses that name for a route, I want royalties...LOL

Hi Rick,

On my Win 7 computer where the 3D stuff is that fills my days with the rest of my research, I have two TRS2004 installs, one TRS2006 - not used... - one TS2010 and one TS12 and I have no trouble using any of the programs.
When it comes to downloads, hmm, I hardly download anything, but I see no issues downloading from inside of Content Manager in both TS2010 and TS12 without any conflicts or issues at all.

I was even able to add in missing stuff in my old TRS2004 by letting it find it on the DLS and take it down I seem to remember from a while back, so, there are no issues that I am aware of. :)
Then again, I have a Life Time FCT so don't think much about it...

And, I love your name NW&NR - just need a route for it... LOL

I'm awake to another day, hopefully not filled with Trainz... :P

Take care

Linda
