Steam chuffed soundcswap?

I want to take the engine sounds, especially the chuff, from on steam locomotive and put them on another. Is it as simple as the way you swap whistles or is it more involved?

It may be more involved as the sound can often depend on the loco speed. Changing the sound according to the speed may be part of a script file attached to the loco which makes it much harder to "tinker" with.

My thoughts only.

The sounds of one loco to another would be in the engine specs, assigning the particular sound files to that specific engine, wouldn't it ? I haven't done that before, other than the whistle, so I'm not sure.
