Android Trainz not like the Android Trainz tutorial!

According to the tutorial for Route Creation on Android there are two thumb sticks and a slider on the screen. these are missing on my Trainz and instead there is a + sign with arrows on the arms and an anticlockwise arrow on buttons on the top left. These appear to have no effect what so ever so the terrain is restricted to that in view.
