Your thoughts on cyber-crimes?

Stop that, its just silly
After reading this article: http://news.aol.com/article/woman-goes-on-trial-in-myspace-hoax/254725 plus other related cyber-crime ones I have seen over time, I thought it would be interesting to have a topic on it relating to Trainz.
In the time I have participated in this community since 2003/2004, I have seen and heard still to this day commentary about several Trainz related incidents that should be crimes but it appears harder to go after cyber-criminals than non-cyber ones. A few (but not all) areas for discussion include:
1 - Stealing/passing around payware so people who never purchased it can get it for any reason.
2 - Hacking websites/forums.
3 - How to catch and punish offenders like their non-cyber conterparts.
Also it may be possible that not all users have the same definitions of what a cyber-crime is.

What this topic isn't for:
A - Challenging anything related to Auran as some incidents happen beyond Auran's control on other sites.
B - A means to allow public accusations/fights between users.

Just thought it would make for an interesting discussion subject.

FYI

In referenence to your first posted link, I found an update to that particular story. From the AP "the panel found Drew guilty of three misdemeaner offences of accessing computers without authorization. Each count is punishable by up to a year in prison and a $100.000 fine."
