This is a new addition to the 'Your nearest station' thread, which, recieved 48 replies. (Good for me though!) What's your nearest MAJOR station? If your nearest station is already a major station just say your second nearest major!!

Mine is:

Crewe! YAAAY!

I think it's managed by Virgin, not sure.

Trains: Class 153, 150, 175, 390, 221, 220, 158, 156, 350, 323,

A lot of excursions start or stop here! Theres nearly always a steam train! also, the heritage centre is a good place and is right near the station!!!!! XD

My near station is Lancaster , which is having Amtrak only Keystone and Pennsylvanian running on this route
Major stn is Pennsylvania,which is having Acela,Amtrak,Njtransit,Septa..so far i know..may b ther are some more

Trenton, NJ would be major, as it's the terminus of SEPTA and NJT commuter service from Philadelphia and New York, respectively, on the NEC and sees the occasional freight. Philadelphia 30th Street isn't much farther though. It gets Amtrak NEC trains, SEPTA electric commuter and NJ diesels to Atlantic City. Two freight lines - one high, one low - go by it on either side. A subway and five trolley lines go underneath. Not to mention the station itself is stunning.

Basically a suburban terminus station with three platforms (one is out of use) and three tracks, served regularly by Transperth A set (AEA/AEB class) EMU suburban trains and the twice daily return Transwa Australind long-distance (ADP/ADQ class) DMU service to Bunbury which stops at the station.

Freight trains did also used to pass through occasionally as well, but they've pretty much ceased due to ARG routing their services via the port of Kwinana.

Additionally, steam and diesel hauled excursion trains used to call at Armadale occasionally, but the two main operators (Hotham Valley Railway and the Australian Railway Historical Society) have essentially ended main line tours due to rising insurance and track access costs sadly (the last time I saw a mainline tour train at Armadale was back in 2005).

So yeah, that's my local main station.

Denver Union Station....closed for Renovation.

That was my nearest major station, won't be open again until 2014, but were getting a new 8 track platform to replace the old 3 track one that existed before, so its a pretty good deal

Detroit Grand Central Station.... but that one isn't used any more. Technically Toledo is the next major station to me, but it sees less trains then my local station. Leaving Chicago Union (or really any of the Metra Stations) my nearest major station. I wish I could claim something like Heuston...

Glasgow Central Station. Has over 600 passenger trains a day. Recently a new platform was added. The second is Glasgow (Qeen Street). Not so big and not saure of the number of trains.

my nearest station is the Overbrook station out in Philadelphia, PA for the SEPTA Thorndale/Paoli line which the Amtrak keystone line bypasses

Trenton Transit Center. It's the nearest and largest station in the area. RiverLINE, SEPTA, Amtrak, and New Jersey Transit are all serviced here on a regular basis.

Biggest station would be Keswick (pronounced Kes-ick) Where The Ghan, Indian Pacific, The Overland and other various trains, both freight and passenger come and go.

Haverhill is the closest station in my namesake city. Amtrak's Downeaster shares the station with the commuter trains of the MBTA. PanAm Railways (aka Guilford) run their freights through the station since this is the main line to Maine.

The nearest "large station" is Lawrence, which also hosts the same trains. The terminus for this route is North Station in Boston. Here the Downeaster and MBTA commuter trains share the platforms. Unfortunately today there's very little freight traffic since PAR pulled out the huge hump yard in Somerville.

North Station also hosts two transit lines. The Green Line, which is a former trolley line, now LRVs runs on both the surface as well as in a subway. This line is to be extended north to Medford in the future! Currently it runs from Lechemere Square in Cambridge all the way down to Newton. The Newton portion runs on the former Boston and Albany Newton Loop. The line is very unique with some of the tightest tunnels and curves in the country if not the world. When new LRVs were purchased recently, there were troubles with them jumping the tracks.

The other transit line is the Orange Line, which runs from Oak Grove, on the Melrose/Malden line to Forest Hills in Hyde Park. This is a combination of surface lines, made up of former steam-road ROW, or shared ROW such as it is from Medford to Sullivan Square in Somerville, and tunnels. This line was moved in the 1970s from an old elevated structure to the new ROW as part of an urban renewal project.

Clapham Junction is only a couple of miles away from where I live:

"Clapham Junction is reportedly Europe's busiest station in terms of through daily rail traffic. The station is situated in the south west London borough of Wandsworth and as a result many routes from London's two busiest stations – Waterloo and Victoria – pass through its platforms. It is estimated that each day about 2,000 trains pass through Clapham Junction, while during peak times 180 trains reportedly pass through the station each hour, 117 of which stop. All services from Waterloo are operated by South West Trains while many from Victoria are catered to by Southern and Gatwick Express. Interchanges account for roughly 40% of all activities at the station."

The Amtrak station here in Tucson may not be major but its the closet one for about 90 miles it has one platform with three through tracks and a stationary 2-6-0 steam locomotive

Amtrak's Indianapolis Union Station is about 50 miles away from me. It used to be more major than it is. Other than that... I'd have to say Chicago Union Station. About 200 miles away.
