Your Map Progress Pictures

Thanks guys!

@sawyer811- Yeah, I thought the bridge looked a little big between spans, I'm going to keep working on the bridge.

@matruck- I had that DEM a LONG time ago, but it was literally "West Virginia", the entire state, lol. I could never delete that many baseboards:hehe:. Thank you for the kind words!

@scratchy- The frame rates actually aren't that bad! I try to keep trees close to the tracks, but textures far away. I'm even running on only 1 memory stick at the time, and it still runs ok. It gets laggy at times, but usually goes back to normal.

Now for a question of my own. I placed a few assets from Dinorius Redundicus, as in the 8th photo down in my first post. They placed below the ground, and then I raised the height up to match the terrain. After I saved and opened the route back up, they appear back in the ground.

And another problem. Every once in a while, I go to save my route, and it gives me a message saying "Trainz cannot save over read-only route files, try saving with a different name." I'll save it with another name and it's fine, but I'd just like to know why it does this. I'm running TRS2006 Sp1 with windows 7.

Thanks,

very nice conrail,

by the way,how big is the yard, because I was thinking about doing something similar to that exept adding more tracks not just for cars but steam engines as well!;)

Very nice job. I must throw out some suggestions not to critisize but to help.
The texture behind the road and ballast usually do not match in most cases, and textures behind roads tend to only peer out from behind once in a while and stay fairly close to the roadside.
The bridge looks great, but I would suggest maybe adding a dark greenish black color or brown to create a shadow effect. This also works for under trees if you just dab it under all of the tress in maybe the first row.
It does have the WV/PA feel as I live in that area.
Now for my route. I have finally taken a break from reskinning and am back on Horseshoe. Altoona Yards have commensed, but in comarison to today they are monsters. They include 4 roundhouses and 3 more turntables. So shots to come.

Thanks for the criticism, and I have to agree with all that you say. About the road/ballast, the only reason I have applied so much ballast texture is because I was getting rid of the red Tiger lines that peered from the sides of the road. At the time before texturing, I always applied ballast textures below the tracks and roads to keep a dark texture going, so I wouldn't miss any faults in the terrain or track (The bright red line would sometimes cover up faults in the road, that with ballast, I caught with ease). I will try the dark textures under the bridge, but I already HAVE placed dark textures below trees and forests. I will also at one point get rid of most of the ballast from under the roads. The route is still in VERY early stages of work, as I only have about 1/6 of the route finished scenery and all, and track work has gone maybe 2/3 of the way. I have also not been able to add too much detail at the moment, as previously stated I am only using 1 memory stick, and the video card that came with the motherboard, and I would still like to have some operations on the route. (not sure if the video card makes any difference though)

Once again, thanks for the criticism, I am going to try your suggestions and post pictures later.

One more thing, UP5521, I have uploaded a video of me passing the yard, and hopefully I gave you a good look of the tracks.

Thanks, and I wish you the best of luck with your Horseshoe route!

Introducing the Cincinnati Union Terminal

This is a map I dreamed of doing and thanks to Ish6 it can start to take shape. This will be s starting point for new routes and I'm basing it on the Cincinnati Union Terminal and locomotive servicing facility. I have been using maps, pictures, and imagination to have what I have below. I'm still a newbie and I would like to have tips on how to improve the map. These are the beginning screen shots.

Stockton '62

Here is how WP / SP Stockton Yard curently looks on my Stockton to Milpitas circa 1962 Route. The Track is done as is some of the track side structures. The other structures and road segments are temporarily there only as a " Pallet " for me to choose from in further construction.
The East bound California Zephyr is entering the yard, passing a longer than ussual SP Sacramento to Bakersfield passenger train.
