Yellow X above train

So I'm hooking up cars in a yard, backing up...going forward...getting the hang of the controls...creating my first actual consist (correct terminology?). Suddenly a Yellow X appears above my train, and the whole thing disappears. What happened? Or should I say, what did I do? Can't find anything in the manual.

Derailment.

Watch your switch linings (which way the turn out is thrown), you can pull through a switch that's lined against you, but if you get half way across and backup you'll derail. It's a quirk of Trainz that one car derailed (like run off the end of the track) will derail the whole consist like dominoes.

I remember my first derailment. It took me a few minutes, then I was like "LOL"!
