Yards

Okay really dumb question (sorry), but for the experts. I know the concept (mostly) for yards, but what are the key parts? And how would I successfully build one? Thanks in advance :)

Contact cascaderailroad.
He is an expert on yards, and very willing to share his knowledge.
We were going to have a skype session but I just haven't been able to find the free time.. (some RL issues going on).
Cheers,
Paul

I would not say that I am an expert, there are many other greater yard tracklayers. I have studied many yard trackmaps, and zoom in 400%, and I detail all the fuzzy turnouts

But I have worked in 3 freight yards, and one hump yard ... My goal is to recreate Altoona, Pitcairn, Enola, South Phila Greenwich, and Conway yards.

The thing about big yards is that if you have 30 tracks, and fill 10 of them up with 1000 railcars, the framerates will be in the single digits. I use a low poly chunky mesh MP Track Wood V2, and MP Rusty, as the framerates are about as low as possible.

My favorite is creating hump yards where railcars roll slowly down a one meter high, -1.25% hump grade @ 100' long ... and then continue to roll down into the hump yard classification yard bowl which is set on a -0.02% grade

Please allow me to rephrase.
Cascaderailroad has a lot of knowledge and skill about making yards, and he is very willing to share his knowledge.
He likes to use Skype to do that and I think that's a great method.

Cheers,
Paul
