WIP Chicago Metro route

Honestly I really can comprehend why people still use outdated textures, rolling stock, locomotives, structures, routes, ETC for trainz; this is a perfect example of sub-standard content. I have noticed so much junk piling up on this forum that wouldn't have been lower end content for Trainz 2006. But somehow this content keeps popping up everywhere that I don't want to ever see in fear of going blind.

In short the main cause of this problem is that people continue to praise these people (more likely children) for their sub standard work. Now I am not saying your route or content is bad, but just don't advertise it as much on the forum. I swear there is a new route, locomotive,ETC. started everyday on this forum that will never see the light of day except from the user.

If for a second you could compare some of the content appearing on this forum to other video games graphically or even a proper route for Trainz such as EK3-ST (Good Job!) or the Mojave Sub, you couldn't go back to your same dilapidated content.

In short please stop hurting my eyes.
:(

Please get a life there is nothing wrong from where I sit
I like what I see,

kind regards,

SDPNZ.

Is this better?

I don't know Chicago so wanted to know were Western Avenue Interlocking is on the map. Is the first two pictures you uploaded?

Thanks
Rob

woops

Sorry about that, aside from five years in the Navy I spent 52 years in Chicago, know it better than this little tank town I've been living in for the past six years. :wave: Might need to redo track markers for other session creators, I'm setting up an AI L (Elevated) train Pulaski, Homan, Kedzie, California, Ashland, I know the next stop is Halsted from so many years of riding the line, but youse "furriners" would have to look at the map. :confused: Here's some maps, can't get it all onto one - I think it's about 10 miles by 5 or 6.

Da 'burbs, Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park, Maywood and Bellwood. Proviso is actually a bit further west and a helluvalot bigger, but really really big yards in train simulators always look abandoned since you can never fill them up with cars. :'(

Where the Belt Line, C&NW, and CTA cross is where I was born. Lotta train watching when I was a wee tot, and they still had steamers and streetcars back then. :cool:

That's where Western Avenue Interlocking is, more or less the center point of the route.

South of the Burlington yard in Cicero is a small mountain pass going to the PO&N. No actual mountains anywhere near Chicago, again this is a fictional route.

Just occurred to me for some of the younkers I should explain common abbreviations.

BROC = Belt Railway Of Chicago, still exists. Usually just called the Belt Line, except there's another one named IHB, Indiana Harbor Belt which also runs in various places around the city.

CTA = Chicago Transit Authority, mass transit company that took over all the elevated, subway, streetcar and bus routes after WWII.

CMSP&P = Chicago, Milwaukee, Saint Paul & Pacific, AKA The Milwaukee Road.

C&NW = Chicago & NorthWestern, AKA the NorthWestern. Got eaten by Union Pacific. :'(

CB&Q - Chicago, Burlington, & Quincy, the Burlington, later incorporated to Burlington Northern, later still merged with the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe to become BNSF.

Another one you may see eventually is MSP&SSM, Minneapolis Saint Paul & Sault Sainte Marie AKA "SOO Line", part of which ran thru River Forest and Forest Park crossing north to south over the east/west C&NW about 7800 west.

NO! That is not better. There is plenty of smoke coming from that engine, but you only have the throttle notch set to 0, AND the reverser is in the neutral position. Although I can cut you some slack on the incorrect locomotive picture.:hehe:

Great map there -- thanks -- :wave:

Actually I just got an idea for the suggestion box now that you have posted a map!

It's people like you that make young route builders give up so please kindly make sure you use constructive criticism next time. The layouts may actually be of very good quality so slandering work like that means that a potential layout that is really good is cancelled.

This probably why there are a lot of unfinished layouts around as people like you put people off. You appear to be obsessed with having the highest quality avaliable that you forget that some people have laptops that are unable to handle high poly count things so please refrain from slandering work that uses "older" content.

In short don't slander work without first thinking about peoples feelings.

Well, thanks for the support guys, but it's really not needed on my behalf - I've been dealing with snotty little brats for 40 years, and when I uploaded the first version of MSTS Port Ogden & Northern ten years ago there were quite a few trolls who took me on before they discovered that I don't have any feelings to hurt. When I say "I'm from Chicago" I don't mean it the way most people from Evanston, Elmhurst, Naperville and other suburbs do, I'm an actual inner city ghetto rat from the west side, not exactly the sensitive type. Since I'm a n00b to Trainz and this forum people don't know me here, so I'm changing my siggy pic to give everyone fair warning.

Well said, indeed!!

I have always claimed to this note -- "when a stranger in any forum negativitly expresses their feelings to you, that should never ever be allowed to hit a nerve, because they don't know you, paid your bills, your rent, or give you happiness" ! Brush it aside, shrug my shoulders, and move on ... that's how I deal with it --

Generaly speaking to all, for every 1 person that might not like what you do, I promised that you will have 10 people that will like what you do!

Great detail route there Sniper!

(BTW - I was raised in the South Bronx, so I know where you're coming from!)

Doin' the Gilmore

Well, let's see how many more dorks I can send into a hissy fit with my cruddy screenshots. :hehe:

Friend of mine from rail simulator turned me on to a cool trackplan for a switching district, had a bunch of facing and trailing point spurs - with no runaround track. The idea was if you didn't want to run several miles to the mainline, you used two engines to switch cars. This works well for US freight ops, since SOP is to MU two or more locos facing opposite directions so they never have to be turned on a turntable at the end of the line. Dunno if it's common practice or how much trouble it is to uncouple them and hook up all the MU cables afterwards, but this is a game, not a training device.

What I call a "Gilmore", switching district named after the guy who gave me the trackplan. Got several of these with variations in assorted places now.

Uncouple the trailing unit, couple onto the nose of the lead unit, pull train out of facing spur and back into a trailing spur.

Change to trailing unit, follow train in, couple to trailing engine and uncouple from lead engine.

Pull out past switch;

Back up past switch, change back to lead engine and run ahead of trailing engine again.

Reassembled with both engines on the front of the train.

Hey Snipe

Great shotz there!! Nice and dirty!:wave:

Ishie

BTW - you and I where born on the same day, different years , tho!

Static scenery trains

Well, due to the way Trainz processes every train on the route I'm not going to be able to stuff 3000 engines and cars into every session, so back to workarounds. Had to do this for MSTS too;

http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?239724-Static-trains

So nothing new here. Without further ado, what's a yard look like with only one real train in it;

Tracks that the fake cars are on don't connect to the real tracks, so there will be no confusion trying to couple onto a scenery object in the sessions. Main thing is it creates the illusion of a working freight yard while keeping the framerates up, 40FPS on my old clunker here.
