WIP Chicago Metro route

I'm more into operations than scenery, so I usually do videos instead of screenshots, but tonight I'm in the mood to try some artsyfartsy. :cool: Route is Chicago Metro, also includes the base of Port Ogden & Northern as a small branch line. Those familiar with the Chicago area may recognize parts, the Milwaukee from Grand & Central to downtown, Chicago & NorthWestern from Belwood to downtown, Burlington from Cicero to downtown, and the Chicago Belt Railway section along Kenton Street. Also includes the old Lake Street Elevated and the Loop. None of it is really accurate, it's a fictional route - when finished it will be more of a mix of what used to be and what might have been, with operational fun taking priority over prototype accuracy. The goal is something for everyone, rapid transit, commuter train, heavy freight or switching, your choice. Current beta is here;

It does resemble Chicago of years ago, although the difference between your branchline and the city is... uh... obvious...;)

Honestly I really can comprehend why people still use outdated textures, rolling stock, locomotives, structures, routes, ETC for trainz; this is a perfect example of sub-standard content. I have noticed so much junk piling up on this forum that wouldn't have been lower end content for Trainz 2006. But somehow this content keeps popping up everywhere that I don't want to ever see in fear of going blind.

In short the main cause of this problem is that people continue to praise these people (more likely children) for their sub standard work. Now I am not saying your route or content is bad, but just don't advertise it as much on the forum. I swear there is a new route, locomotive,ETC. started everyday on this forum that will never see the light of day except from the user.

If for a second you could compare some of the content appearing on this forum to other video games graphically or even a proper route for Trainz such as EK3-ST (Good Job!) or the Mojave Sub, you couldn't go back to your same dilapidated content.

In short please stop hurting my eyes.

I seem to be having a weenie week

"Honestly I really can comprehend why people still use outdated textures, rolling stock, locomotives, structures, routes, ETC for trainz;"

I think you mean "can't" rather than "can". Simple answer, lower polys and smaller textures mean better framerates for those of us who can't afford newer computers. The routes built into TS12 are great for screenshots, useless for anything else on my system.

Then don't look.

"In short the main cause of this problem is that people continue to praise these people (more likely children) (58 years old next week, 19 grandchildren, I'll be a great grandfather next month) for their sub standard work. Request denied.

I've been uploading mods and addons for computer games for 20 years, what have you ever uploaded?

Wow. That was uh... impressive masterowner. I've never seen anyone come onto another's thread and slander their work quite like you have. And for that: I applaud you.

On the other hand, while newer, higher quality content would've made for a better overall appearance (and saved masterowner's eyes), I think that it is great that you used the older content to save the strain on most everyone's computer. It is always good to see content made of Chicago, and the overall feel does depict the smoggier, more industrial city that it used to be.

Just to let you know, masterowner's oppinion is not the prevalent oppinion among the rest of us.

You're an a*s. Don't come into someone's thread and insult his or her work on such a huge project.

Your comments are almost completely unconstructive, and off-topic, especially since Sniper offered a VERY early beta of his route. Which I might add that I enjoyed even in its infancy.

In my opinion, WIP screenshots should always be welcome, but in the case of such an undertaking, should be even more so. You want to tell Sniper to use different textures or offer advice, I'd like to suggest that you do so respectfully.

You heard jayinatlanta! You keep up that criticism, and I'll have to wash out your keyboard with soap!:p

wow....i don't exactly know what to say to that. Here's a counter-arguement: People get so overindulged on JR and RRMod's loco's (Not saying they're bad, i have most of their Freeware and some of their payware) that they look at the older models and scoff at them. Me, I'm perfectly content to run my Utah Belt SD-45's from JR alongside my early Build 1.3 (i think) RS-3s that Cincysouthernrwy has skinned to death. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as sniper said, and for me, any engine is beautiful.

besides, if you want some high-poly Chicago Metro engine, well, blender and GIMP are free, so have at it:D

Wow, this route is incredible. Everything I like on a route. Complex rail networks, rapid transit, passenger operations, switching operation, and space for long runs. Masterowner may have his opinions, but I'm with sawyer811, I can drive an old rs-3 or a paintshed loco next to a JR loco with no conflict between them. Excellent work and excellent comebacks. :hehe:

Hmmm...

Some similar system specs here, in that same format;

Dell DXP051 Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz
2GB Crucial RAM Windows XP Media Edition Nvidia GEFORCE 8500GT

I think the minimum specs call for "3.0ghz or equivalent", I think they mean the equivalent of a 3 ghz single core altho they don't say. A dual core is not the equivalent of double the frequency single core, it's more like a 2.5ghz dual core is equivalent to a 3.4ghz single core. There's even disagreement on that, everyone seems to have different multipliers for the calculations.

Anyway, I'm still trying to sort out what's tanking the framerates from the AI traffic after running for about an hour, since youse guys have similar specs, what do you get for FPS if you go to Western Avenue Interlocking after about an hour of running the session? www.fraps.com has a video capture utility that can be used for an FPS display if you're running full screen. I seem to get the smoothest framerates from 1024x768 full screen, altho DirectX versus OpenGL seems to depend on the phase of the moon, sometimes one is better some days it's the other.

Looking great. Cant wait to see a finished project, I too have enjoyed the early beta. I imagined that the PON/ChiMet, went bankrupt and a small railroad, The Midwest Industrial RR. Took over operations so I have JR MIRR engines doing the work instead of the ChiMet ones. And Amtrak is doing the passenger trains.

Sniper just one suggestion if you can add the ASB or ABS whatever its called to lock the interlocking when a train enters so you dont have trains going through each other.

hert:wave:

AFAIK there's no way to actually lock the way the prototype does, but the sessions SHOULD use Trigger Multiple Signals to change the cross tracks to red in both directions.

http://trains.0catch.com/tutorial.html

Part 12 of that tutorial covers that, altho there's one item - I've gotten two different stories from the developers, "custom rules must have a special tag to add themselves to the KUID table", and "custom rules should automatically add themselves to the KUID table, they don't need any special tags". Whichever is correct, when I save a session any custom rule I use DOES NOT get added to the KUID table, therefore is not listed as a dependency, ergo will not automatically install along with the session.

Trigger Multiple Signals,<kuid2:116387:26:1>

If you don't already have that installed, you need to download it for Western Avenue Interlocking to work correctly. Before I upload the finished version I'll manually add whatever custom rules it uses by hacking the config.txt file, hopefully that will make it automagically download them with the helper.
