Win 7: TS10 Scanning for deleted asset/modified files too many times?

Anyway to solve the issue where a Windows 7 dialogue box opens about every 2nd, 3rd or 4th time that shows "Scanning for deleted assest files", and then "Scanning for modified assest files"?

Anyway to either disable it, or at least so it doesn't appear so often?

It's not a Windows dialogue box, it's a Trainz one.

The only way of preventing it is not to shut down too quickly, although if Trainz crashes it will appear.

You do know that this gets annoying. Not annoying because it happens, annoying that is happens so many times.

And would I suspect that XP did this "behind the scenes"? And if that is correct, how come XP seemed to load the game faster?

Hi

As Shane says, this is nothing to do with windows at all. It is usually caused by shutting the computer down too quickly after closing Trainz. Although Trainz has disappeared from the screen it is still carrying out housekeeping tasks with the database for a minute or two. If you shut the computer down too quickly windows will stop the database tasks completing, causing the database to become corrupt. This is why it has to rebuild when you start Trainz the next time. If you go to the Options screen when Trainz starts, open the Developer tab and then tick the box "Show database process windows" you will see the two programs TADDaemon and Trainzutils appear on the taskbar when you start trainz. When you close trainz down wait for those two programs to close as well before shutting the computer down and you should have no further problems.

It sounds like a full 'Extended Database Repair' might be needed. Hopefully it will cut down on the amount of housework TADdaemon needs to do before closing down, which should make it quicker. It takes about 4 minutes for my TADdaemon to finish, but of course it depends also on how big the DB is and on the performance of your computer.

TRS12 (unpatched) takes about 30 sec to shut down.

On my old computer TADD took over 2 minutes on an HDD. with my new one it is about 15 secs on a SSD both with TS12.

I have seen this so many times over the years and with each new version of Trainz we get more of the same. Those buying a new version for the first time have to go through that learning curve we all remember so well, and some are still on medication. I have never understood why Auran / NV3 could not open a window and advise that it was closing down and please wait until the operation was complete. It cannot be that hard. Just my thoughts....

I agree with you on this, Doug.

I asked for a dialog box and even a progress bar once in the suggestion boxcar thread. At least tell us something by default.

To ensure that the game is shutdown properly, I enabled the command console in the Developer's settings tab. This brings up little command prompts when things are active. When they close, it's safe to turn off the computer.
