Mr_D,

Trainz TS2009 will work fine with Windows 7 64-bit. I'm not sure about the others though.

Remember to install and run it as an Administrator. This will ensure that the Content Manager as well as the program its self has full access to the hard drive and other resources necessary to run properly.

For Me 2010 Won't Run on Win 7 64 bit

I'm a casual TRAINZ user though I've had every version since the beginning.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get 2010 to run on either of my Win 7 boxes (both multi-core high performance machines that can run any game at highest levels). Trainz 2010 takes forever to load each screen, sometimes like 20 minutes to display Routes, then just as long to attempt to display the selected route, and once it is running it is in slow motion fits and starts as to be unplayable. I just spent a week rebuilding one of the boxes with a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium on a virgin hard drive and I still have the problem. I haven't patched anything as it seems a waste of time if the basic original simulation won't run. I do have the latest drivers installed for my hardware and programs like Flight SImulator X and Crysis run perfectly... TRAINZ 2010 is the ONLY program out of a huge collection that won't run properly.

I just went back to 2006 which runs flawlessly. I don't have time to waste trying time consuming patch downloads unless someone can tell me that they address my problem. I came here today looking to see if anyone had reported my problem with Win 7, but can't find anyone else mentioning it so I'm going to give up and maybe wait for the 2011 version of TRAINZ (or maybe just stay with 2004 and 2006). To be honest, the huge number of complaints and problems that I've read this afternoon are very, very discouraging.

I did buy 2009 World Builders Edition from a download service, but my DSL connection is so slow (I live in the middle of the Navajo Indian Reservation and things are primitive out here in the wilds of northern Arizona - I have to drive 20 miles of dirt road just to hit asphalt)... it literally will take me 3 days of downloading to get that version reinstalled (the program got trashed in a hard disk failure under Windows XP so I'll have re download it).

Oh well, wish you all good fortune with future development. If anyone has a fix for my situation, I'd love to hear it :)

TRS2004 runs fine on Win7 64-bit. Hey, guess what, I'm running on a toshiba Satellite LAPTOP and an ATI graphics card and it works great. Although I am awaiting confirmation on specifics from Zec, I suspect 2010 will run just fine.

People seem to have a lot of problems with it here, but proper installation will probably minimize that risk: Disconnect from internet, disable anti-virus and firewall, install as admin...that's the key I think.

I run TS2010 on Win 7 Professional (64 bit) with an Intel i7 920 processor, 6GB RAM and an ATI Radeon HD 4800 series video card. The computer is a bit over a year old so it's ancient (like me!). Most of the issues I've seen seem to be with video cards and I gather NVidia cards are preferred.

I can run Trainz in Open GL which gives a better result than Direct X. My display is a Benq 24" which works really well with Trainz in 1920 X 1080. The only time graphics get a little slow is with densely populated routes and I think the problem is mostly with my slow hard disks which are SATA 1 and were brought over from the previous computer that ran XP. I'd like to update the hard disks but just thinking about it is hard work!

I also have TS2004, TS2006, TS2009 installed but spend 99% of my Trainz time in the 2010 version. I think one of the installations is busted but haven't followed it up.

I do get some odd problems when trying to save routes or sessions which forces me to save as new versions. I'm wondering if that might be a Windows problem or perhaps because I have Trainz installed on an E drive and buried deep in a games directory tree. Trainz makes copies of route and session files and maybe the very long part and file names are causing problems.

Trainz will run on laptops but you will probably have to spend extra to get decent video as most of the lower priced laptops save money on that area.

TS2010:EE and Win7 64bit

Hey
I am running TS2010:ee on a 64bit quad machine and have no problems at all. At first I had trouble but when I downloaded the new patch all is working fine. My only problem is working out how to install new routes and content into the system, I seem to get alot of missing asset errors anyway that is something I will have to work out. But as far as running on a 64bit machine all works fine.

Thanks for the response guys. I'll give it one last chance and reinstall with internet disconnected, firewall disabled... etc etc.

It will be great if this works.. I've spent some frustrating hours with it so far.

Lots of frustration with Windows 7 as well. I ran the free beta for at least six months and had no problems whatsoever. When I installed the real software I had enormous driver and system problems. Couldn't get my printers to work as well. I just spent a week reinstalling and rebuilding one of my two machines. I'm about ready to hook up an Artisan 50 printer and see if it will work now. It had been locking up the computer for over an hour to print anything. The other box has an old Epson R300 that won't print CD's any more despite reinstalling the latest drivers from Epson over and over again.

It's just been a frustrating six months, let me tell you!

Happy Thanksgiving everybody (belatedly) and Merry Christmas (in advance).

Rhonda,

Try installing and running everything as Administrator. That will take care of 90% of the issues you are having. I noticed that with any of the NT-based versions of MS Windows such as Win Vista and Win 7.

When installing your printers, try installing the driver first then connect the printer. This seems to be the way it is with these devices.

What are you running for PC hardware? What system brand, video card, etc.? This can mean either going to the manufacturer to get drivers for such companies as HP, Dell, IBM (Lenovo), etc.

Good luck and let us know if this helps.

I'm running a Far Dareis Mai "Blackhorse - Mark II" PC (one of my own builds - I haven't bought a store brand PC since my early Macintosh days).

CPU is an AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition (quad core)
Video Card is an ATI Radeon HD 4850 with 512 meg ram
4 gig of Corsair PC2 6400 DDR2 RAM
4.5 terrabytes of Hard Drive storage

I just rebuilt the box so all drivers are current.

Haven't had a chance to reinstall 2010 yet - back to work tomorrow and had to get lesson planning and grading done (I'm an 8th grade Social Studies teacher at Pinon Accelerated Middle School in the middle of the Navajo Nation (the wildest, least developed part of the rez - lots of the kids have no electricity or even water in their homes).

Hi,

For the problem of Trainz 2010 taking a long time to load, most probably it is due to shutting down or restarting your computer immediately after finishing a Trainz session. Wait a minute or so after exiting Trainz, or open your Task Manager and see if TADDaemon.exe*32 is still running. If so, wait till it's gone from the list, then you can turn off or restart your computer. If you don't let TADDaemon close, next time you start Trainz it will rebuild it's database, which can take more or less depending on the amount of content installed.
I had this problem a few times after intstalling 2010, untill i came across a thread in these forums, can't remember which one. This is certainly something that should be fixed, since many people don't know about it, and it is discouraging. From all software i have on my pc, it's the only one that behaves this way. Besides that, 2010 runs fine on my Win 7 64 bit system.

Greetings

Regarding TadDaemon, if you go into the launcher options > developer and tick the "Show database process windows" you can then see when it has finished, also displays TrainzUtil, both of which run in a console window. Quite often if Trainz isn't apparently working it's one of these two doing something with the database.

The AMD Phenom had/have a bad bug that was fixed in the Phenom II this may be your problem.

My other box is running a Phenom II (tri-core) and it behaved exactly the same way.

Good tips above on checking running processes.

Won't have a real chance to reinstall till Friday night or Saturday... it's a crazy, exhausting week at school. I'll let everyone know what happens with the reinstall. I suspect that it did have something to do with either the firewall being running or else PC Tools Spyware Doctor running during the install. It's on both PC's so that's a common factor.

Be sure to diddle with the switch between DirectX and OpenGL. One person on here with an ATI card got better results with OpenGL. I have an NVidia card and found just the opposite: a huge improvement when using DirectX. So it;s prolly worth trying both.

Success!

Finally got around to reinstalling TRAINZ 2010 per the suggestions above.

This time it worked!

One minor glitch... when running under Open Glide the screen would suddenly go blank after about 15 seconds. If I alt-tabbed back to the desktop and then clicked on the TRAINZ tab it would come back fine for another 15 seconds then go black again. I switched to Direct X and that problem went away.

It still requires a bit of waiting for load times.

Downloading the update patch now, will turn off the firewall and anti-virus again before installing that.

Thanks for all the help
