Why was the "Source" menu default changed for SP2?

stonks goin up
I'm curious as to why, under Driver/Surveyor in TRS19 SP2, the Source drop down menu resets to Owned every time I launch the game.

Prior to SP2, it defaulted to Installed. This showed only the routes that are installed in TRS19.

Now it defaults to Owned, which shows every route I have purchased, including those that aren't compatible with TRS19 (Classic Cabon City being a prime example here).

If someone could explain this strange choice to me, that would be much appreciated.

Just another one of those things that we'll never understand I guess. There are many of those as new versions come. At the least, after you make your choice on that menu it should remain (be remembered) until it is changed again by the user. Even after a quit and start. Seems simple enough to me.

I believe it was as a result of people grumbling about it defaulting to whatever it was before. Another case of be careful what you wish for.

Agree with all of the above, it was better before
could be a commercial choice (but dont see how)

-it still remembers the loco or vehicle, good!
-Region, if you made your own region (i made netherland ofc)
it won't be in the list and is set to custom but is not a selection option can only choose ALL
Would be cool if the Region list would be dynamic based on the regions you have installed in CM (search for kind region)
-I don't see why the menu items are all in CAPS (its considered shouting)

Tip: never select download station, it will start getting loads of pics(you dont want)

greetings GM

Same as a few years ago with the commercial assets receiving top billing. The object is to place payware on display every time you start the product. This is the cash cow. Remember how we argued for relief of the display of top-billed payware menu. Crude, cheap and effective.

People seem to forget that N3V is a commercial operation, not a charity. Without marketing and sales we would probably still be stuck with Trainz 1.3.

Do people object to the names "Ford", "Sony", etc stamped on the products that they have purchased outright? And remember that you do not own your copy of Trainz, you have only purchased a license to use it and it remains the property of N3V.

I agree with Malc, be careful what you wish for. I personally have no problems with DLC routes appearing on the opening menus, at least they are no longer in that hideous green.

My thoughts.

Same here.

It could be worse by defaulting to promotional sales items not owned. ;)

What would be nice is if there was a recent filter so we can find our recent routes and projects.

Junt in case someone missed it - As soon as the window opens the cursor is in the search field just waiting for you the type the first few letters of the route you want. Very convenient and a very quick way to your route. It begins filtering as soon as you type your first letter. Very nice.

If the software always remains the property of the company, then i would be a little worried about allegedly a back door entry that allows access without your knowledge. But that would explain some events,
There is software that has been developed that can detect most parts of any computer in the world regardless of where that part is in the world ,,
Lets just say i have a video card in my computer and i live on the Central Coast of NSW and i was to sell that viedeo card to somebody in the UK , then when that video card is installed in the computer in the UK it can again be detected.
This works for any part within a computer,, Phone Ipad car computer, and it can be seen within an instant,, this is the world we live in now ,, just wait until the chip is under your skin,,

Steve, that is happening right now (and I am not a conspiracy theorist). It is the basis of the ban on the installation of Hauwei 5G hardware and network equipment in many countries including Australia and the USA.

Just before I retired I was involved in the rollout of 100s of thousands of laptop computers to school students in the state of NSW. Only 100 or so were in my school but I could, from my desktop in my office, tell the status of each laptop and even the room where it was being used via the school-wide wifi network. At the state level, the techies were able to track an individual laptop around the world - in fact they reported that within a week of them being issued some had travelled to the USA and Europe. That was a security measure, a microchip, that had been installed in each laptop to allow it to be disabled if it was ever stolen, it was not a standard feature of that particular brand of laptop.

As to the "backdoors" you mentioned - that is 99% likely to be unintended flaws in the OS or software, not deliberately designed "break in" points. The vast majority of security patches that are issued for software these days, including Windows, Office, Adobe, etc, are designed to plug these "back doors" as soon as they are discovered. As for the presence of back doors in Trainz, I have no concerns. What are N3V going to discover about me by monitoring my Trainz activities? A predilection for 1960s narrow gauge railways perhaps but anyone can discover that by listing my DLS uploads.

An unconcerned response.

Conspiracy truth ,, I asked a very high Judge could he name something in this world that is not corrupt, apart from a child and nature ,, { he said no he couldn't } so i then said to him go and ask why they are corrupt , and when they answer you and you know that answer is a lie you will then walk away wondering why they have had to lie,,
It is the lie that causes the speculation of Consiracy nothing more ,, an action sets a reaction ,, know this to be true ,, If they don't want Conspiracy then don't lie in the first place,,, The human race does not like truth ,, nearly every set of traffic light is able to read your Phone and all data on it,,

99.99999% of so-called "conspiracies" are simple stuff-ups (a "polite" way of putting it) and not deliberate attempts by unknown mysterious outside forces to subvert us. That is a fact, not a conspiracy.

A technician inadvertently flicks the wrong switch - is that a "stuffup" or a "lie"?

My greatest "stuff-up" of all time was to accidentally click the wrong button on an option when using server management software and instantly over 1,000 users had their passwords and user IDs deleted from the system. It took 3hrs to get everything fully restored from the backups - I was not a popular boy. Was that a "stuff up", a "lie" or was I acting on behalf of a "shadowy international conspiracy"?

Conspiracy theories are easy to invent and spread, and almost impossible to disprove. The truth is not as interesting.

Yes i understand you , but i am talking about verbal lies which cause gross misunderstandings / confusion and as you know one lie leads to 5 more to cover the 1 lie ,, Flicking the wrong switch because you were reading N3V newsletter is your problem
