Whre can us folks in the U.S. buy TS12?

Okay I've decided to take the leap of faith so to speak, and have wanted to purchase TS12 now that it's come out on Boxed sets..

The problem is.. I don't want to order from Overseas, and have to pay extra for a program that I feel is worth 50 bucks.

However I've heard that some companies like Gametap, and even JointedRail.com offer this as a digital download. And I've also read in the JointedRail.com forums that they're actually selling TS12 in boxed sets (Which is really what I want.

So the question is.. do I go overseas, and pay a whopping 50 buck or do I download it from Gmetap for 49.99? Or do I purchase a digital download or a boxed set from Jointedrail?

(Also it's interesting to note that Jointedrail.com does have a shop but it seems you can't purchase either the digital download or the boxed set at this moment). So I've written a letter to them (Jointedrail) and asked..

"How do I get this program"

(And no I'm not a believer in piracy either.. I want to do this legally, and give the creators what they deserve.. my hard earned cash, just like all the other Trainz products that I've bought over the years.

So your thoughts?

I definately wouldn't buy the digital download from Steam.

You can get the Auran digital download.

Or the Jointed Rail Digital download, or boxed set (which is the same as Auran).

I would recommend getting the official boxed DVD version from Auran and waiting for the delivery.

You are not going to get anything cheap ... if you buy it on E-Bay you might get a open box previously registered disk, and not be able to register it.

The price is reasonable ... try to buy cheap, and cut cornrs, and you will get ripped off !

I checked Gametap.com to be sure if the version they are selling has some cumbersome DRM scheme like Steam, and I didn't see any evidence that they sell it yet or are planning to do so in the near future. In any case, Trainz is certainly one of those things best purchased either directly through Auran or through a REPUTABLE reseller. JointedRail is certainly reputable. Steam, on the other hand, requires the addition of their problem-causing DRM, and has limited patchability in the past because of it.

I recommend JointedRail.
Excellent service, quick shipping and a nice little bonus in a voucher. They got their shipment of disks in on a Friday and I had my copy up and running 6 days later.
Great bunch of guys who enjoy the program itself.

Dave......

If you need a physical copy, see if there's a Fry's near you. I found they carry a lot of boxed products that no one else does, including earlier versions of Trainz. I myself got the digital download direct from Auran.

I recently bought mine from the Auran shop with air mail. It came in my mailbox in little over a week. I bought it Sunday night, and it shipped Tuesday morning! I received it Thursday of the next week. :):)

Good Luck!!!

Well I have to agree that Gametap seemed a little fishy to me, as I thought that it would be much like the digital download that Aurun offers.. but if you look closely, the digital download that Gametap offers seems a bit small (5.8 vs 6.1 gigs.)
so hence that is why I am VERY suspicious of downloading from them.

Now as for Aurun, I wouldn't mind buying from them either the boxed version of the digital doownload.. the issue I might have with the digital download is that you could lose connection, or you might have to disable your anti-virus software. (Not a good idea as one of my friends suggested.

So it really leaves me with the boxed set from Aurn..

Now as for Jointed Rail, that too is poosible, and the 'payware voucher' is doable as well, but it leaves me wondering.. how on earth would you download it from them? Again I found no real links or ways such as direct payment and then an emailed codekey to get the program up and working. Plus the Jointedrail site warns that they are not responsible if your computer crashes and you have to download again.. (of ocurse you would have to burn this to a DVD so that you can use it..

So again, the boxed set is an option..

But there is the caveat again.. How on earth would you get a boxed set from them if they claim they have a sore, but then have no way for you to purchase it directly (even if they were to ship you the boxed item)?

so then, how do those other folks in Jointedrail's forum do it? I mean what's the payment plan, or how would you get in contact with them other than what they show on their website in order to purchase the product..

See this is the thing, you either..
1. Pay for the download from Aurun and hoope you don't get DC'ed..

2. Pay for the download from Jointedrail (A Reputable seller for the prodduct), and again risk the chance of DC'ing and thus losing out on a product.

3. Buying from Aurun directly (Boxed Set), and having them ship it to you, hoping that you will get it in a week (if not two), and hping to not lose the item in the overseas mail.

Or

4. Ordering from Jointedrail (A reputable seller for the product) and getitng it from them directly and maybe having to wait a few days.

But considering that the reputable seller has no real way of purchasing it from their store directly, this leaves me very frustrated that I'll have to pay an additional 4 bucks (Due to the transaction fees for currency exchange), and then have to wait 2 weeks minimum for the product to arrive..

Also Fry's is out of the option as the only Fry's we have here i Tucson Arizona, is not an electronis store, but rather the grocery chain.. and I would need to go to California to do that.. (And I don't even drive!)

so right now, if someone would please tell me how the reputable firm does sell their product, I wouldn't hesistae..

As for Gametap? They're not an option..

I haven't heard of a boxed set being lost in the mail. Obviously, it can happen and statistically it has to, but that's a risk with anything in the mail and I haven't seen any evidence that mail from Australia is any more prone to loss than domestic mail. I've bought TS2010 and TS12 as boxed sets from Auran with no problem and quick shipping.

The DD seems to be a painless process AS LONG AS YOU USE A DOWNLOAD MANAGER like Free Download Manager. There are other download managers available, just be sure to use one that's spyware/adware-free since a lot of the "free" and even some of the paid/shareware ones have it. I know FDM doesn't as long as you get it from the site to which I've linked. The download manager is key though to a trouble-free download experience because even if a download is interrupted it can be resumed, and most downloaders do at least some error-checking. Similar to the above, this would be true no matter who you buy TS12 from.

umm your not wanting to spend $50 on it from Auran, but willing to spend $49.99, that makes a lot of sense.

I would suggest buying direct from Auran, as more of your money will go back to Auran to help them keep things like the DLS running. However I should point out that the $50 ($49.99) listed on the Auran Store is in Australian Dollars, not American Dollars, the current exchange rates puts the Auran version at $76.9846 US (plus S&H for the boxed)

I'm really not sure where the big hangup over the digital download is coming from, you don't have to disable your antivirus, and if you lose connection, with Auran/N3V anyway you can download it as many times as you want. You're not just limited to a single shot.

I can still download 2009 and TC 3 directly from Auran/N3V so I'm really not sure what you understand about the digital download or why you'd be somewhat adverse to it.

If you're capable of burning a dual layer DVD you can save yourself postage and/or gas money for a trip to the store as well as sales-tax.
