Who'd like to tell me how to get a screenshot?

Press your 'Print Screen' key. Then look for your 'screenshots' folder within your installed TS12 folders (I have TS2010 and it's under ..\TS2010\UserData\Screenshots, but may be different for TS12).

Or use fraps(I recommend changing the default place the screenshots will be sent to, so you can actually find them!)

Don't forget that F5 Key ;)(It gets rid of all those menus on screen)

But remember; do it in driver, press F5 to remove all the tabs and make sure the mouse pointer if off screen as much as possible.

No need to download any extra software at all. I really do not see what they add what can already be done with a standard TS12 install.

To make a screenshot, press "print screen" (usually found near the top-right of your keyboard). You can press it as often as you want; all will be stored in different files.
As posted by the first replier, you will find your screenshots here:
-wherever-you-installed-TS12-\TS12\UserData\Screenshots
What I did was make a short-cut to this directory; easy as that.
Next, you edit the picture. Since the only thing you need to do is resize to or cut-out an image of 240x180 pixels, Paint is good enough.

Got your 240x180 image?
Great!
Open Content Manager, ctrl-shift-e the asset you want to add the image to, copy it into the now opened folder, give it a decent name like "thumbnail.jpg".
Next, edit the config file. Notepad is perfect; do not use any fancy tool. Now edit the thumbnail tag to this:
Code:
thumbnails
{
  0
  {
    image                               "thumbnail.jpg"
    width                               240
    height                              180
  }
}
If there already was a thumbnail tag, be sure to replace it with the previous or simply remove it.

Again: Totally no need for any extra software.

If the thumbnail is for the route the easiest method is to go into "Edit Route" find the area you want for your thumbnail, then from the Main Menu top left select "Edit Route ..." and you have an option to "Set Thumbnail" Click on this will give you a new thumbnail for the route.

If it is for a new asset then follow oknotsen method, as he says no additional software is needed.

Almost finished writing a long reply about how that picture was adding anything to this topic till I finally got it.... Screenshot.
Conclusion:
I need more cola.

I lost track of what you are having difficulty doing ... taking a screenshot ? Making a thumbnail ?

I could help you out with doing both things, using free irfanview, or any image manipulation program.

You sure that's not ALCO-Haul?
...\UserData\Screenshots
Thank you, Dean. Exactly what I was looking for.
I'm still working with my '09, but, sure enough there's a screenshots folder right where you said. I'd found where 'editing' and 'scripts' are - guess I wasn't thinking about screenshots last time I was there.

...mouse pointer off screen...
That I surely would've forgotten.

Thank you, oknosten, for the step by step. Yeah, I know just enough about editing configs to get myself into trouble.
And, yeah, Paint or IrfanView should do the trick. (and thanks for explaining screen-shot; I was just empathizing with the sentiment.)

As did I.
Very kind of you to offer. Now that I know how to generate the initial image (and where to find it) I should be OK. Perhaps you could teach me how to make that nice rusty GATX Oily-Rag tanker not be so damn reflective. I can't blame Auran for showing off when they got ahold of that technology, but bad choice of rollingstock to be all shiny like that [imho]...

Hmmm, really?
The PEV tool mesh viewer will make a thumbnail for you
I have a feeling when I get around to messing with that I'll be to busy to think about screenshots. Still wrapping my brain around Attachment Maker.

Speaking of: think I could move an attached track by way of its attachment? Have one ferry landing with the track too close to the platform for a City-Cat (and I'd really like to apply my usual solution to any passenger loading situation: "AJS Invisible Station 1t3.5" but I don't think platform height adjusts to 1-1/2 to 2 meters below the track. (maybe I should look 1st?... Nah) (OK, No. It doesn't. 0 is the lowest height).
