Who has the busiest railway system?

What about Light Rail??
It also depends where you're talking about in regard to the area, the outer suburbs, the CBD, the countryside, where

Because Flinders Street Station handles up to 1500 trains a day, not including frieght or country services, but only 110,000 commuters

Jamie

Does anyone know how many trains Southern Cross Station handles?

I should think the statistics in the advert are based on traffic density. Not on passengers carried or freight tonnage.

In which case the UK & Japan, must be at or near the top of the list.

IKB.

Yea im gonna go with the U.S. because New York Penn Station moves a train every minute so yea I'd say its pretty busy!

I believe it would be very hard to judge which is offically the busiest railway, being from the UK, you would instantly say Clapham Junction, The London Underground or the East/West Coast Mainlines...

Then again from other country's you are going to side with what you believe is the busiest from your own country, I am a bit swayed between the Netherlands and Japan, both of which have highly populated rail networks, and I am tending to move more towards Japan over the Netherlands, just for population alone.

I think it is too close to call...

I'd say the USA. Why? Because if you ride an Amtrak from one side of the country to the other do not be surprised to be three hours late because you were held up due to constant freight on the track ahead.

It might not seem like it but then you also have to consider landmass compared to density. Comparing the USA to GB is hard for the distance separating industries in the US could be a few days while in GB it can only go so far with in two days.

Russia seems more comparable to the US due to large distances between cities and industries.

Whose the leader in the worlds busiest passenger? I feel Great Britain wins there. Freight? Russia Combined? US.

I don't have statistics in hand but even then most statistics are made up.

This is just one of the worlds interesting mysteries that will never be truly solved... Unless you yourself travel the world and do research enough to conclude yourself, even then it wouldn't be representable of every day.
