Whistle Sign Post

Can someone tell me how this option works in the game? In the game it says 'no description available'.

I was thinking how it worked was you can specifiy a trackside object in the game for when an AI loco got to it, it would blow the whistle of it's loco. So for instance if you wanted the AI loco to blow it's whistle at every crossing it comes upon you could put a trackside object like the Xing VR2 and the AI loco would blow it's whistle.

Everyone understand?

Try Kuid 200726:24033 it's an invisible horn which you place on the track in surveyor. It is not seen in driver mode. Every time you loco reaches it it sounds it's horn. May be what you are looking for.

Does the loco I'm running sound it's horn or is it the AI's loco that sound there horns?? I'm trying to get the game more realistic by having the AI loco's to sound there horns at RR crossings. And the reason is because sometimes I pass an oncoming loco near a RR Crossing and it would just be a nice realistic thing to hear the AI loco sound it's horn as well approaching the crossing. Not something I'll loose sleep over if it won't work, I just thought that's what the Whistle Sign Post option was in the game when editing you session rules.

I'd still like to know what the Whistle Sign Post option does too though.

Thanks.

No matter what loco you are using it will give the relevant sound for that loco. There are some whistle boards some where on the D/s that do the same but I do not know where they are. Try entering whistle and click the title box. This will bring up all that there is.

I just DLed it and tried it. It works but it needs to be longer in duration. How do you read and edit a .gse file?
This is just a toot and I'd like to blow the whistle a little longer...

Thanks,
Rick

hi xphantomx I use sound horn by bloodnok <kuid2:60850:23113:1> depending on how long your loco horn blows is how close you place the horn sign to the x-ing. I use the horn from the ac4400cw39586 it's more like here in US. I place mine about 90 ft before x-ing with speed of 60/65 mph then it will blow thru the x-ing,play with to you are sadisified. Hope this help!

That must be an '06 item, Danny. I can't get it, I'm running '04. Got anything for us '04 users?

Thanks,
Rick

I've been wondering about this as well. The sound horn thingee works for diesels, but what about steam whistles? Also, there are other places where you would want to sound your horn besides crossings. The duration of the sound should be adjustable.

Cheers,
Fred

There is an asset, or used to be, up on the DLS that uses an HTML form to play a sound file when the train passes a track mark setup near the crossing.

The caveat here is the sound will only play once, and if there are two trackmarks because this is single track, the same train will blow the horn at both trackmarks, but only once.

Once the sound has been played by one train, no other train will trigger the sound to work again.

I gave up trying to get this to work the way it should so maybe someone else can think of a way to make this work properly because it would be nice to have the AI drivers blowing their horns they way they're supposed to at the crossings.

There is a Hornsound that blows two long-one short-one long in it's entirety. It's on a Canadian Pacific loco I believe.... or maybe Canadian National. I can't remember. When it hits the invisible horn, it blows the standard crossing horn (2 long---1 short---1 long). I use it on A.I. locos. You may have to experiment with placement to get the right distance for realism.

OK, thanks, guys. I think the issue is with my own horn sound I created. I'll have to experiment a little more with it.
