Which Version of Trainz should I release my route in?

I was disappointed with TRS2009 when it came out, I thought that it was too buggy, so I would recommend that you Build in TS210 and also test in TS12. Whatever addition trackmarks, etc. that you need in TS12 to make it work can be incorporated into TS10. It works for me.

Cheers

That would be my suggestion as well.

Build in 2010 test in TS12 sounds like a good plan to me as well, something I should have done with my effort, unfortunately gone to far to backdate from TS12, don't make the same error! although I think building is a lot less prone to problems in TS12, merging of course being the exception.

2010 will enable 2010 and TS12 users to use the route, 2009 isn't exactly popular.

To be honest, I think if I was starting a route now as a long term project, I'd use the newest version of Trainz and ignore those who clamour for everything to be backdated which effectively is what I forced myself into by moving my route to TS12 in the first place, TS12 routes won't backdate, too many differences.

Can you explain that a bit more please? Is "build in TS 10" simply for wider usership as you
and I've had significant problems with TS 10.

Yes, David. My suggestion was intended to provide greater access to the route. I have TS10 and I have had no problems whatsoever with that version of trainz . And the feature set is miles ahead of TRS2009.
Also, my TRS2009 had problems joining baseboarsds smoothly. Gaps were evident between adjacent terrain.

Additionally, quite ofted along the seam of a base board, a raised hump would appear that would cross tracks and require individual attention to flatten out along the route. This was my experience and I am not speaking for anyone else.

Cheers

Thanks for all your comments. I've gone for TS 12, all updates to my route will be on the DLS in TS12 format, all subsequent parts will be released as an extended version of the original, no merging required.
Thanks again
David

You have decided but I will put in my twopennyworth anyway.
I build a fair few routes, started in 2004 and am still using that version because I find it is the most stable one available and I even bought two more copies recently as backups. I do have 2006 which is not bad, missed 09 and got 2010. I won't be buying 2012 due to it not having Compatability Mode so it's worth taking that into consideration.
There are still problems with 2012, it is 2010 updated really as far as I know but I am happy to be corrected on that, so whatever problems you encountered in '10' may well surface again.
Building in an earlier version such as 2006 if you are happy with it might make it more stable to work in and you can always Import it into a later version when you're ready to Upload.
And on the uploading thing I was under the impression that there is a limit to the file size that can be uploaded, that is the reason I build a long/large routes in sections.
I am still in 2004 and can upload to the TPR site. Then folk can download and put it into later versions, but there may be problems especially with spline objects which are set up differently in the latest version I believe, althouh TBH I have not checked as I don't upload any of my content as 2010 assets. All my own content works in versions up to and including 2010 even though they have earlier configs when I test them here. I Upload to TPR as 2004 content.

I expect people will jump all over me for this post but I work in a version I know works without any hiccups. Tried both 2006 and 2010 but went back to '04', which must say something.

In the event every version will lose support after about 4 years so I don't take that into consideration. All the stuff from way back when is still available and more is still being made.

Good luck with the route whatever it is and have a lot of fun, that's the whole purpose of Trainz.

I'm unclear of the logic of having buying two extra copies for backup. Just back up the original, zip it up if need be and keep a paper copy of serial number.

Hi. For what its worth, there is only one version to release it in and that is 2012. Nothing else should even be contemplated. If some want to run it in 2010 or less let them sort it for themselves. If it has a few faults in 2012 then fix them, but to release a new route in an old version is like having a hankering for yesterdays socks.
I realise there are some who contribute to this forum who are steeped in the past but as you probably appreciate, there is only one way forward. Why Auran even bothers to support anything prior to 2009 beggars belief. We all want better trouble free games and some of the talent on this forum goes a long way to helping with that by advising and solving the quirks in 2012 but if we continue to dwell on yesterday and make new stuff for old games we will never got very far ahead. Incidently after initially purchasing 2010 and reading this forum I went back and purchased 2004, 2006, T 1 & 3 etc and installed them all to see if they are as great as some of the pundits say however it was a waste of money. I didn't even bother registering them and took them all off again and now even only use 2010 as a resource library for 2012 and for testing. 2012 is as good as it gets in spite of its bugs and the need to often fix earlier version kuids to run in 12, but if everyone moves to 12, soon all the kuids will be fixed and error free. Isn.t that what one needs? Cheers
