I'm looking to get Trainz for my 4-year-old son (he's big into trains...LOL). I've seen there are several different versions available.
I was going to get TRS 2006 (from Auran) since it has a wide variety of locomotives and the graphics are supposed to be better than 2004.
I briefly considered Trainz Driver (for its simplicity) but, from what I've read, it frequently suggests upgrading, so I figure I might as well get the full-blown version.
I have seen the TRS 2006 DVD. It looks very comprehensive but, from what I've read, it requires the DVD to be in the drive in order to run. I'm trying to make things simple, so if we don't have to have the DVD in the drive I think we'd be much happier.
Finally, I've been reading about Trainz 2009 which is coming out in November. Obviously, this upcoming version seems to be the one to get, due to superior graphics.
I recently bumped up my old Dell Dimension 2400 (2.0GHz) to 2GB RAM and I'm putting in a GeForce 6600 256MB 128-bit PCI video card. I'm just not sure if the machine will be able to take advantage of the better graphics of Trainz 2009.
I know all this sounds kind of crazy, since all it needs to do is have forward, reverse, and a horn...hehehe (I might mess with the more advanced features when my son goes to bed).
Anyway, I guess it's a choice between TRS2006, TRS2006 DVD (Focus), or waiting a month for TRS2009.
Any thoughts or comments are welcome.
