Which Railways has got the longest express trains?

"The Ghan" of Australia runs with up to 49 cars.
The "Auto Train" in the US also runs with up to 49.
The Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey circus trains here in the US have 60 cars each.

I am more intrigued by the locomotive:coaches ratio in India. For cranky, smoky, old (but reliable!) ALCOs, a single unit usually hooked up to surprisingly long trains and haul ass at surprisingly high speeds. In the US you'd typically see 2 or 3 P42s pulling perhaps a ~10 car Superliner express.

Haha...i know...even sometimes I wonder that how much power does these locomotives have?

US locomotives and coaches/cars are heavier than Indian locomotives and coaches. So you guys need power to pull those cars/coaches(some physics involved..:)). Then more heavy is the train the more the power is required to pull the train(because of friction acting between wheels and tracks).

Power of IR locomotives:(i dunno abt some of them...:/)
Diesels : 3300 HP , 4700 HP , 5000 HP
Electric : 3300 HP , 5000 HP , 6350 HP

Most power full IR Locomotive : WAG 9 with Power Output 6,350 hp (4,735 kW).

I dunno much about US locomotives but I know that Diesel Locomotives are 6000hp+..:)

2 P42DC are quite enough, the ATSF needed only 6000hp on their Super Chief and it was typically longer than today's Southwest Chief. The reason why we have extra loks is for Head-End Power, or for transfers throughout the system.

I doubt you have hotel power needs in India, thus it is easier to treat it more like a freight train on an accelerated schedule. If I sound brash, its just that I don't have any other way to put it.

I dunno mate...it might be on the distance between two railway stations might also be the reason for getting 2 locos pulling the train.

Nah it is not "Freight Train"...we have one of the worlds busiest Railways with one of the longest rails network.
