Where Do I Find a Switch Engine that Works With TrainZ12?

I have spent much of the evening downoading almost every switch engine I can find on the content manager download station. None works with TrainZ 12. I am not very particular. All I need is a small switch engine, an SW-7 or similar, of any road name.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you
Dean

Feel free to clone and repaint any of those, I don't generally do real railroads, only fictional ones.

Thank you for your help. I have only downloaded things through the content manager before. My first class ticket is soon to expire, and I am not planning to renew it. Almost everything I download doesn't work in TrainZ 12. Now I have two questions:

Sniper 297, when you give me a list of kuids, how do I find these and how do I download them and install them in TrainZ 12?

Bunkerratmk2, I downloaded an SW 1200 from the website you listed. It is exactly what I wanted, provided it works (I also saw several other things there that would be nice to download). Now the problem is, where should I put the file I downloaded and how do I install it in TrainZ 12?

Thank you
Dean

Think you may need to read the manual, click the manual button on the launcher or it is in the TS12/extras/Documentation folder.

If what you have downloaded is a cdp then either use the import function in content manager or just drag and drop onto the main CM window.

Sniper297's items are on the DLS. Use content manager to download them.

I was able to download a couple of switch engines from rrmods.com, and I used clam1952 instructions for importing them. They work perfectly. Thank you for the help.

Yes, Clam1952, I have read the manual, and I have it in booklet form, but it is so vague, that is is almost worthless. I rarely understand what it is talkng about. If it gave step-by-step instructions, I might be able to understand it.

All of the kuids listed by sniper297 are his creations and are on the DLS. Use your Content Manager to download them.
Here is a list of SW1500 switchers that are all build 2.7 or newer and should work out of the box in TS2012. Use your Content Manager to download them.

See if I can jam all this into 800x600, why they don't restrict file size instead of image size is beyond me, a compressed 1024x768 image uses less bandwidth than an uncompressed 800x600.

Well, first keyword search, if you type in "chimet" you'll get everything that starts with that. "switcher" doesn't get you everything because not every switcher has that word in the title or description, sometimes you gotta try multiple keywords like "SW" instead.

Left side, click the plus sign to open a new field, set for author, then the name of the guy (or girl) you're looking for. Click the plus again to open another field, from those drop down lists select category, then locomotives. Select what you want in the main list, click the right mouse button, select download.

Here's a little tip, add a build number column to the main list, click on "Build" and sort according to build numbers.

Or, set the search filter for Category = Locomotives, click the plus again and select minimum build version, type in 2.9 or something so you don't get a bunch of old 1.3 and 1.5 builds that have to be updated to work in TS12. Note also in addition to the minimum build and category filters I also typed SW in the keyword list, that gets me all the locomotives with sw somewhere in the text that are build 2.9 or later. Spend some time learning to use content manager, it's a power tool that makes finding and sorting stuff a lot easier.

Sniper297, your simple explanation of "Build Version" ranks among the best advice I have seen on this forum. Up until now, I had no idea what that meant. I was about to give up on the download station, because almost everything I downloaded was out of date. Now I know to watch for the build version.

Thank you for your clear explanations

I will try to jump in with a hijacking comment. The switchers probably do not receive the same "beauty shop" treatment given to passenger locomotives. Almost all of the assets listed for SW1500 look good but are perfect right out of the factory. I can understand a perfect looking Acela but a workhorse engine has to be dirty or it stands out like a "sore thumb". And while I am ranting, or is it whining, the paint must fade on these things unless some new formulation has been made for Trainz. So, faded and dirty is my preference. Just a suggestion to the original author. If these are not prime criteria the list of 1500's is quite large with lots of rail companies well represented.

IMHO -- the best weathered unit:

right out of the factory

Yes. I have posted some engines and so far they do look "perfect right out of the factory". Because to me they are. As time goes on, I well put out dirty engins. But for now my stuff is new. Don49plm
