Where Did THIS Water Come From ...?

Gentlemen
I have come to you again with another issue-ism. I have also included this screenshot to show what a dilemma this is.
I have tried 3 different ideas to eliminate this monstrosity with no luck, of course.
If you have an idea or a solution for this, please let me know. Not just here but, in a few other small areas.
And, thank-you all for your help and kindness for me.

Here's hoping the holidays treated you with kindness and resolution.

(PS: I cannot get a screenshot to fit in here)

This is a section of track that has been flooded.
:'(:'(

Water has completely been redone. Its now an effect layer and can be manipulated like terrain. That being said when you add water it will add it everywhere and you will have to edit it below the terrain. Older layouts it basically floods them.

Hey Hert

Now that I have some ammunition, I have to figure out how to get to the other surface to delete that part of the water.
I did find a way to get there but I'm not proficient at that as yet. SO, if you could dig a little, would you help me
step by step to get that "black water" surface and delete it.?? I'm good a many things but this - I'm not !

Also, I tried to get the screenshot of that ole' booger but the system would not let me do it. Three times I bombed.
How do you do it ??

Thanks a million.
The Colonel

And BTW, I am not from the Phillipines ! ! ! I am from SC, USA .
Nor do I have a Skype connection. I'll be finding my profile editor and make some changes pronto.
I have not a clue how or when this happened, unless N3V has a case of the Covid ! ! !

To add or delete the water layer you need to go to the effect layers just below the pallets windows.
If you import an older route use the import legacy water when you select the effect layer + symbol.
Adding water covers the whole board at the default level.

I will see if I can help. Its a little different when using surveyor 2.0 but seeing as you use classic I will explain it though that.

Here is the reference image to help my explanation:
My-Trainz-Screenshot-Image.jpg

1: Is the old legacy water, adds and removes like it always has.
2: This is where you select the new water effect layer.
3: Clicking that square brings up water effect.
4: Clicking the little arrow brings up the advance options:
Name: Whatever you want to call your water layer.
Height Binding: Not exactly sure what this does.
Default Value: This is the default water level added. So for example if your layouts base height level is 0, when you add the water at 0 it will flood anything below that.
Asset: This is the look of the water, like what you edit in the environment options.

5: You now use the topology tools to edit the water, just like editing land.

Hope this helps a little.

Are you saying you add water it applies to the whole Route?
Or only to a selected area ?

In S2.0 go to the left side below the texture pallet and select the effects layer and highlight the name you gave the water layer. Move to the brush on the right and below select water in the top brush window. Then in the bottom brush window select how you want the brush to behave, lets use the set height. Below that enter a height, say 20m. Now start to brush as you would do for the ground.

Is there a video showing how to do this. I cannot find the water layer so I can raise or lower it.

Here is what little documentation I have found.

https://docs.trainzsimulator.com/v1/docs/water-effect-layer

Take note that even though it is included in TRS19 SP4 and and SP5, it has limited functionality. I think that is N3V speak for "it doesn't work as it should...". Set the settings as shown above and have a bit of play with the terrain tools, water just magically appears. Using terrain up and terrain down just creates lumpy water. I have not yet found a way to use the set height tool as described in the docs in TRS19 Platinum. Perhaps this is part of the limited functionality. If I do, I'll make a quick video.

I must mention that my version is TRS2019 and even though you have shown the screenshot of your 2022 game, I will never know how
to make mine work. After a few tries and little knowledge, it worked.
Now, I'm trying to work without a water source and I have not had any flooding (lolol).
Also, I can mention that the water that I had which was the main issue, was the color BLACK. Figure that one out !?!?!
Hert, you have been a big help for the understanding part and, if you choose, you should create a DIY video on YouTube
for everyone who may have the same problem. (Only if you have version 2022)

Gotta Run, Bye.

Using Surveyor 2.0 I also had the "OILY BLACK WATER PROBLEM" when adding a water layer.

I solved the problem by deleting the "Water Layer" in Surveyor 2.0, saved the route, then switched to "Edit in Classic Surveyor", checked the water level for "Adding Water", added the water where I wanted it, saved the route, then switched back to Surveyor 2.0, and hey presto, I had CLEAR WATER, where it was formerly the black, crude oil type of water. As of this moment, I am not sure how this process will work on other, separate and/or "higher" areas of water, but it worked, so far, for me.

You should be aware that if you are using Trainz Plus and convert your route to HD terrain it will convert the old style water to the new water layer as the old style water doesn't work with HD Terrain.

The Water Effect Layer is covered in the Trainz Wiki Page How To Use the S20 Tools.

See the Water Effect Layer Edit Controls (how to build a Water Effect Layer) and the Use a Water Effect Layer (how to use a Water Effect Layer) sections in that document

In S20 you can have multiple separate water effect layers each with a different water colour, surface effect (rough, smooth, etc) and at a different default (starting) height. You raise and lower the selected Water Effect Layer to different heights where needed using the brush tools to make the layer appear or disappear. This is far better than the old Surveyor Water.
