Where can I find DEM Data for the Tocumwal Line?

3Ds MAX will be my demise
G'day!

After fiddling about with TransDEM, I took a look on NSWrail.net and browsed through some of the disused tracks. I thought building the Tocumwal Branch would be a nice task because (A). It would be another additon to Southlines4, and (B). It would be a good challange. So any idea where I could find the terrain data? I've looked around for NSW DEM but haven't found much.

Cheers! :)

Jake.

Hi Jake,

I can tell you one thing about the area, it's very flat :hehe:

Another member and I have been working on the route area over a number of years but a lot of our interest has been on the Historical side of the area such as the huge US Airbase in Tocumwal during WWII. It is because of our work that Vulcan first started creating his current planes as we needed some WWII ones. While our work has taken time, if we ever finish it, it will be too complex to be merged with the Southlines Routes.

I have a DEM file created by Jerker on the line from Tocumwal to Narrandera and a lot of information on the stations and there locations. The DEM file matches up perfectly with Peter Gibbons Narrandera line and I have mentioned to Peter that I would create a suitable route from it to connect with his work. This is why he has never touched/created the line. If the line is created in a similar fashion to Peter's routes then it should not be such a hit on anyone's computer (I hope). However, our route with all the additional Historical Military content would be.

I have been telling Peter I would do this for some years but different things have stopped me from progressing very far.

If your willing to take on the project I am happy helping out and forwarding the DEM file and additional information to you but I would have to check first with the other person I am working with. I do not see this as a problem as we have also talked about 2 versions in the past, one quite complex and one not so complex so that it can be merged with Southlines.

I will let you know soon what I can do to help, but in the mean time PM or email me (via the forum) with your email address so we can talk more away from the forum.

P.S. The Tocumwal Bridge and Irrigation channels are also made for this route (all on the DLS now) :)

Craig, I sure would be interested in taking on the project! :D Where can I find these bridges and irrigation assets on the DLS? I searched 'Tocumwal' and only the bridges at the border came up.

Cheers! :)

Jake.

Hi Jake,

I got your email and will reply later.

The Irrigation channels are by William2 but I can not at the moment remember their names. I will get back to you on that one.

You will hear from me soon.

Oh BTW when I received your email I was talking to my partner on this project and he is happy to have 2 versions, one to join the Southlines suite and one that is a Stand-alone due to the amount of content. You will be getting the DEM file.

Yes, that's the easiest. There is ASTER GDEM2 as well, but much more complicated to use, not recommended for your first route project.

Follow the "Quick Start Guide" in the TransDEM Trainz manual (page 8) to get acquainted with the work-flow.
