When will the forum search function be fixed, N3V?

It's been nearly 3 months since the forum software was upgraded, and the search function is still not finding user's posts from sometime in 2010 to sometime in January 2012. When is this going to be fixed, N3V? or if it can not be fixed, then could you please let us know so that we will no longer wonder why it hasn't been fixed?

Regards,

Zachary.

Google has worked well for me in finding threads that the auran forum search function does not find. I used google this morning to find a long lost forum thread.

I will add my plea to this, currently it is useless. Before, we could search for posts containing our search term, now the nearest we get is the thread itself. It also has another shortcoming, I recently searched for 'texture-replacement' which was rejected as being too long, what use is that? It rejected one of Trainz own tags.

Perhaps we should start SHOUTING.

Peter:

The "Advanced Search" page has two tabs, "Search Single Content Type" and "Search Multiple Content Types". There is a gotcha in this: when you go to the Advanced Search page by clicking on the "Advanced Search" link at the top of the page, the latter tab will be selected by default. Why is a good question. You need to select the "Search Single Content Type" tab. At the bottom of the "Advanced Options" section of that tab is the option to show results as either threads or posts.

I don't use the search function on this forum much anyway, so I don't know whether the following applies to this forum (although I would not doubt it), which uses vBulletin version 4.1.10, but on a closed/read-only forum that uses vBulletin version 3.8.2 that I've read threads on, the search function will reject search terms that are too common. That can get in your way.

@Petan: Perhaps I ought to try using Google to search the forum sometime if I need to. But the forums has it own search function, and N3V are aware of the problems with it that I mentioned in the opening post that started when the forum software was upgraded, so they need to fix it, or, if they can not fix it, at least let us know that they can't.

Regards,

Zachary.

Google's Advanced Search can be restricted to a single domain, and is very good at 'quotes' or 'this word AND that word' type searches so it has for some time been my preferred method of searching the forum.

However it does seem silly that a support forum lacks any useful search tools at all. Repeat threads can hardly be criticised when an attempt to search may have yielded no results. Not to mention no returns at all from 2011.

It's gotta be fixed...
